This may sound like a silly question, but, are you sure your handles are right side up? Don't laugh....I saw a guy trying to fly his 1.5, having difficulty, and that is exactly what he was doing wrong. It doesn't sound like that is your problem, but I just had thought I would ask.

Short ends up..........right?

Hey, you should have seen this guy. His name is Bill. I pointed out to him that his handles were up-side-down. This was not his first time flying a Rev. He said "Should I turn them over?" I said something like "That might be a good idea". He turned them over, then he couldn't fly the kit at all. I had to tell him to switch the top and bottom lines when he turned the handles right-side-up. It was VERY hard to keep a straight face.

Merry Christmas :)

EDITX

(if you rememebr correctly), we were still using the original wood Rev line winders (plastic ones weren't be produced yet by Rev), which had metal screws/pegs on the side to attach the clips to, when the lines were wound onto the wooden winders.

Just reading some old stuff and found this, does anyone in the UK have one of the old wooden winder they dont want?

Good Home waiting

Seems to me it was much larger then present day winders and had a screw for attaching lines.

It used a wide elastic black band which was attached to the winder with two big snaps on it, for holding the lines in place.

I think it is shown in some of the early videos if anyone still has one.

I think my brother might have my winder.

After that winder came the clear plastic handle that had an elastic band with a Velcro holder. It was forever getting misplaced.

What year did Lee Sedgwick come to Seattle for his seminar with Kathy Goodwind? David Brittan told us about them there.. Lee Sedgwick was no wind flying outside and David was hot on his heels. I don't recall if Ron J. saw them sooner w/ Dave and Troy or not. It seems like 91 or 92.

Lee and Daved were both so full of good information, 3 of us that hadn't been drinking or anything and left with big old headaches. Thank goodness there were 3 of us to help retain it.

We met people over the years in different spots that didn't know other people were were 3 D flying and using leads. We're all pioneers in this sport.

I had a 150 line snap at the swivel with my Rev. I. and sure would of hurt someone if they'd been near, plus putting them on and off was a pain. The swivels came off early to. Elizabeth King, had one of the first 10 kites.. dated 1989.. I'm not even sure they sold them then. It didn't come with a video.. and who knew it had brakes?

Clear winder.. Bet I traded it instantly.. I wouldn't have been able to see it back then.

BB Penny

In the early 90's we did not know of each other. We did not go to the same festivals or competitions. There wasn't anyone at any festival we went to with the same idea. There was not anything in any magazines to influence our ideas.

So, it seems we all came up with the same idea independently at about the same time.

Good enough for me.

I remember that on the early REV I's, they also had swivels on the bridle. I took the swivel off very early as I had had bad experiences with them in the past. I remember quite well the early REV I wood winders. The also had a stretch black strap with velcro to hold the lines down. This was later replaced by a clear plastic winder which I think my first REV II came with.

I also think my REV I SUL had this clear plastic winder.

Question, I put 7" pigtails with 5 knots top & bottom on my handles. I have to put the top lines next to the handles and the brake lines out at the 3rd or 4th knot. Is this because I don't know how to fly a Rev? Or is there something else that might be out of adjustment?

Thanks for any input.

Denny

How much rev flying have you done? BB Penny

Hi Simon,

I have ne of the wooden winders here somewhere.

I wouldnt actually go so far as to say I dont want it. However I dont need it, and if you would like to have it that would be fine.

Drop me a pm.

It's not surprising newbies have a puzzling time getting started on their Rev flying journey.

I've just spent some time modifying some 13" standard handles.

The leaders on the top were half, yes half the length that are supplied with the B-series handles!

And they only had one knot in them.

So I made my own longer leaders out of bridle material.

It's not as soft and pliable as the usual leader material, but it will have to do.

Tied in the usual knots.

Should be good to go ;)

I also have HEAVY/FIRM bridle line for pigtails, and it would be nice if you could order some of the BLACK

line thats on the B Handles in longer/custom lengths to make good pigtails with.

I used some of the line from a Rev Stacking Kit. I believe it's the same line that comes on the B Series handles.

The fist thing that I do when I buy new Rev handles (and I've got 10 or 12 pairs) is take the stock pigtails off and add new, longer ones.

Mine don't have as many knots though; usually just 3 on the top, spaced about an inch apart and 3 on the bottom, spaced closer together for fine tuning.

You can see the difference in the attached picture.

Bottom handle is before the modification.

Great Job Choccy.Clear and streight forward.

Its Common place now,but before the B Series was Launched[not that long ago].It was a tricks of the TRADE thing or you had tobe King pouba in the Masons to get the Secret/pro stuff to improve.

If it wasnt for this forum. What other real medium is ther for such Gems of knowledge.

Benson Bridle line is good for leaders btw.

lots of folks carry Hi-Test Bridle line (100# strength, "doubled" is certainly more than sufficient), I think it's made by LaserPro.

It's a 40# dacron sleath over 90 or 100# spectra.

Back in the old days we had to make our own bridle line! You'd push a carpet needle backwards thru a 100 feet of dacron sleeving, dragging the spectra the whole way. What a treat to have somebody deciding to manufacture that darn stuff!

The real beauty of this product is how easily it can be tied and untied. Plus, there's some stiffness that helps to prevent tangles and nesting when flying one-handed or pushing the slack-line envelope. I also immediately replace all the leader lines when acquiring new handles. That is one less variable to deal with frankly.

Know that this is an old post but - couldn't Rev sell pigtails tied to JB's standards?? Then we would have a pattern to go by to make more!!:)

I have pigtails. And I have bridle line. Most folks just buy a bunch of bridle line and tie their own. :)

Tedious...but doable.

Theresa

ps...any chance you can get up to Westport for the Festival this weekend?

A Couple of Few Tips.

1. Buy good heavy weight bridle line, like so many things, stiffer works better.

2. Cut way more than you think you will need it's surprising how much each knot shortens the line.

and

3. If you are trying to match favoured settings start tying from the handle end not the free end as otherwise each knot pulls earlier knots closer to the handles.

Hi all,

Didn't think I should start a new topic on this....

I'm wondering if there is a minimum length the handle leader line has to be. Reason being, I'd like to mod my 15" handles to include a couple knots on the top leaders.

Would moving the knot on the top and bottom leaders to say, an inch away from the handle negatively effect performance?

If my first knot could be an inch away from the handle, I could use the stock leader line, and tie in a couple extra knots on the top, and trim away the excess on

the bottom leader. I only need the one bottom knot anyway - I'm a "top-knotter" when it comes to handle adjustment :kid_smartass:
