What do you do when you aren't flying?

Recommended Posts

@ exile,

I was packing up last weekend after flying at my spot close to home(ALONE)kid_cussing.gif and a guy pulled up and started unloading stuff so I watched for a minute because I never see anyone at this spot, and he reached in and pulled out a falcon, I sat there for probably an hour and watched this guy work with this bird, absolutely amazing, very impressive hobbiesmile.gif

Thank you Micheal. It's wonderfully beautiful and all consuming sport, more an obsession than anything because of what is required to have these birds. *whispers* Don't let a falconer hear you say, and certainly don't say it to one, that it's a hobby. LOL

Perhaps someday we will meet on a flying field when I have my birds with me. I would be more than willing to show them to you.

Couldn't remember the film's title - Ladyhawke!! Isabeau was the name of the female character in the film, doomed to be a hawk by day, woman at night!!! Her gentleman lover was a man by day and a wolf at night!! I think!! kid_devlish.gif

THERE YA GO!!! Yup! The french legend of why the wolf howls at the moon. The bird that they used in the movie was a Redtailed Hawk. And was started my dream of becoming a Falconer. So when I finally managed to get my first bird, that just so happened to be a Redtailed Hawk, I named her Isabeau.

I work as a Training officer at our local Agricultural College 3 days a week and work from home the other 2 days.

Wife reckons I work from 8.00am, till 12 knots then go buggying.wink.gif

Fly kites, thats a given...

I built a kite buggy and get out on my local beaches whenever I can.

I build and sail landyachts.

I'm the captain of our local volunteer bush fire brigade.

I fly radio controlled helicopters, planes and slope soarers.

I pistol shoot at our local club.

I'm lucky enough to be a private pilot.

Just too busy for a second childhood. I haven't finnished the first yet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!laugh.gif

I fly my mountain bike. Well its mostly me flying in a very uncool manor over handlebars. (hopeless). Stunt kites are safer. I play African drums at festivals, clubs and on hill tops where I wonder how swirly the wind would be if I got my kites out. I tell my wife Kites Drums and Bikes are my careers. Seems more sane than climbing trees.

Wufer

I am a damn site better with a rev than with a helicopter, steep learning curve

I had a bad R/C habit kid_devlish.gif up until a few years ago. Hmmm, till 'bout the time I picked up sport kiting....

The learning curve on the R/C helis was especially steep for me!

This was the last chopper (or as Arnold said in the movie Predator, "the chawpah" kid_devlish.gif) I bought:

Walkera43B.jpg

Walkera 4#3B. 4-channel, won't do full 3D (unless you bounce it off the floor hard enough kid_cussing.gif) but very graceful for its size. If you look close enough, you'll notice the tail rotor is gone, broken away again angry.gif

I do Falconry most of my time

Myself, and my Redtailed Hawk. "Isabeau" Now, who can tell me where I got the name from, and why?

Pretty_little_lady_by_Defiant_Exile.jpg

This was Freya, right after I trapped her. She is an American Kestrel.

Hey Sammy. I wonder if we are the only djembe playing rev flyers. Guess starting that thread may be a little to specific. Both pursuits feed the Soul.

Hows this for a deal, I'll come down for a weekend and teach you everything you could ever wanna know about Rev flying in exchange for Falconry lessons?

biggrin.gif

Hey I say I get in on this too! As odd as it may seem Exile is the closest Rev flyer to me at a mere 6 hours away! I'm still working on a couple local guys to dig their Revs out of the closet, but for now 6 hours is best yet.

I think I could be up for meeting in Great Falls this fall for a weekend. I should be used to longer drives if I get myself to wsikf in August. Who else would be interested in doing a fun fly where Exile lives assuming he wants us there?!

Bart
