Wildwood Int'l Kite Festival '09

Recommended Posts

Good deal Jay, Another year at the wood, I'll buckle up for the drive!

My thought is to start small get it tight then add to it, what do ya think?

Sounds good to me Scott...

John had me in the Center of the Large Groups so we could Split into side by side Teams..

We can work together on what ever you think will Work..

That's always worked out best for me Scotty...

Rotate the pilots through smaller groups, getting them acclimated, then drop in the for the really big flies.Especially if the caller hasn't had extensive experience handling teams that big, it's good for them too.

Trial and Error right John.. :)

That sounds good, I was thinking exactly that. (team by team, just not in the grid, correct)

It will seem like a lot of work just to hold a hover, good practice for some and no patient for others. I can see it just getting bigger over time and when anyone goes somewhere else they can at least have that experience, Evolution!

Berck stuff looked WICKED, I know they were established pilots ( teams) but , Start somewhere

Humility, uh yeah, I will be patient and do what I can.

One thing that Stephen Hoath has observed in the Mega Team grid fly is that team fliers may be reluctant to step outside their usual team positions. The comfort factor of having the same person close by is something they may be unhappy to relinquish.

In the Decs we switch order and calling side (not numbering though) as a matter of course so being dropped into a different position is a regular occurrence.

In Europe we do also have the language issue which is not going to go away any time soon... Spanish, French, Dutch, German and English at Berck. Excuse me if I left anyone out <grins>

Felix, we have fewer established teams in North America, a lot more mix and match... I don't imagine it will be an issue.

Quite so! Just sharing the observation from Stephen and hoping to encourage the efforts over there...

Hey everyone,

I'm so glad to see all of the excitement you all are putting out for this event, THANK YOU!!!!!

There's a few things I wanted to share with you . . .

* FYI, I've just learned that the Oceanic is no longer accepting American Express sooooo, if you were planning to pay by that means you'll need to pay by a different means. Yes, their still accepting Master Card, Visa and cash and I don't know about checks - if you want to pay by check I'd suggest you call them directly at 609 522 6500 to inquire;

* I've attached the most recent field map fyi. As my goal is to always try to ensure that all are taken care of and specifically with regards to Rev flyers, here's what I've got for you regarding open / soul-flying / practice flying space.

Re SAT, I've got space available on Field 2 until 10:00am and then again AFTER 1:30pm, until the rest of the day.

Re SUN, I've got space available on Field 2 and WITH THE EXCEPTION OF from 12:00pm - 1:30pm, the entire field is yours for the entire day! As you can see, you'll have a good deal of "your own field" time. For the times there are other things taking place in Fields 1 & 2, feel free to utilize the beach to the East of Field 2 - and there's still plenty of beach!

* on SAT the Rev Mega Fly is scheduled on Field 1 from 12:00pm - 1:00pm. On SUN, Rev Games is scheduled on Field 1 from 9:00am - 11:00am and another Rev Mega Fly is scheduled from 11:00am - 12:00pm.

Lastly, if you have any questions on site, while I am always available to all of you, the primary Operations individual is Jay Nunes so please feel free to reach out to him first!

Thanks very much everyone and I truly can't wait to see all of you in 1 1/2 weeks!

Warmly,

Beatrix

Looks like dedicated Rev flyers, Sat morn, practice fly on field 2 then move to field 1 for NOON , for the Demo, after demo move back to field 2. SO 10 am till noon on Sat??

Sunday Field 1, REV Games, 9 till 11, plenty of space for all, then, demo, 1100 till 12, then eat your lunch then after 1:30 field 2 is open. that's some juggling, but It will play out, the masses will find a place to flock!

Be mobile.

My thoughts are one sided for the Rev's so I will go where I can and find an empty place in the sky!

It would be nice to keep a show on field 1 for the crowd. when the REV's have the field, organization will be important to keep their attention.

Last year when Barb & I stumbled by dumb luck on the kite festival and IQuad, they were doing their magic beyond the roped areas. :w00t: There was still ample space between them and the water. We left before IQuad came in for demos so I guess what we witnessed was practice. You can see the space they were using here:

(watch in HQ for best results). This experience is what got me active in Rev kites and led me to plan my schedule around the kite festival this year.

I presume we can practice in the same area when not doing group or demo activities.

That was IQuad, it won't look that good in the background this year! organization will be vital to herd the masses.

Organized schedule all day Field 1, until 3 or 4 pm will only bring a true show to the public, The Rev's will fill in and fly in the background when all the other stuff is happening. trying to put on a show first.

Until the Revs can be the show all day we'll just show glimpses out front and training in the background, some festivals don't even have as much room as will be there. It's all good, plenty for everyone, even Indoor stuff. ;)
