Kristalis, perhaps you can tell us are there flyers in Northern Ireland?

Confirmed

Luxembourg - Gregor Westermier " The Legend that is..."

New Zealand - James Madelin - Indoor and Innovation Master & Rob "Chopper" Harris of The Flying Squad.

I'm guessing that as we've had visitors to The Flying Squad site from United Kingdom, United States, Netherlands, France, Spain, Germany,Ireland, Canada, Switzerland, Japan, China, Russian Federation, Portugal, Belgium, Australia, South Africa, Singapore,Malaysia, Italy, India, Taiwan, Norway, Colombia, New Zealand, , Republic of Korea, Denmark, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Kuwait, Austria, Philippines, Hungary, Brazil, Poland,Argentina, Greece, Iceland, Turkey, Mexico, Thailand, Malta, Bulgaria, Panama, Lithuania,Israel, Albania, Indonesia, Jamaica, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Estonia, Guam, Guernsey,Serbia, Slovenia, Trinidad and Tobago, Croatia, Vietnam, Luxembourg, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Venezuela, DominicanRepublic & United Arab Emirates.

These might offer some leads as to where the Rev has landed !! :blue-cool:

Other than South Africa where else in Africa ???

John

You have listed “Holland”, think to be absolutely correct that should be “The Netherlands”. I’m not sure of the exact reasoning but I think it’s an England, Scotland, Wales / U.K. thing. No doubt, now that the debate has been opened, one of our friends from The Netherlands, will put us right.

I've added more countries, I remembered fliers from after reading Marc's input and Stephen's list of site visitors, as well as Rhode Island.

Again, if we have a confirmed country with at least one Rev flier, just let me know, I'm aiming to avoid guessing at this point so I'll be looking for absolute statements.

As for naming countries correctly, YES PLEASE, correct me and chalk it up to pure ignorance on my part, we're one family - I do not wish to offend or otherwise chafe anyone. :)

As for "represented on this forum", yeah, ditch that... If you know there is at least one Rev flier in a country that isn't on the list, do let me know.

Changed to Netherlands, I don't think there's any heated ownership debates between north and south Holland. :)

With regard to the UK topic... To me, Ireland and England are different countries, with clearly different identities and cultures.

Let's stay the heck away from politics here, not even the point... Does anyone here understand the definition I'm aiming for here?

Perhaps you could word it better than I?

Am I making too much of it in my attempt to be clear?

LOL - sigh

==

Added Austria, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Italy.

Keep feeding me, I'll do my best to keep up with it.

Hi John - you've got an interesting challenge on your hands here. As has been mentioned, if you go state specific in USA, then the equivalent is using French departments, Italian regions, etc. To borrow the equivalent principles of another hobby:

Amateur Radio use a countries list:

http://www.qrz.com/i/dxcc.html [eliminate the duplicates caused by different callsign prefixes]

Here The "United States of America" counts as one entity, alongside "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Ireland in this list is separate and represents just the South, of course.

So, at the risk of complicating the count, I wonder if you might start with a simple countries list (USA counts as one), then subdivide by state, region, province, or whatever where the country count is sufficiently high to warrant it.

It is true that characteristics of continental European countries can vary significantly across their domain, reflecting their close neighbours (I'm thinking Begium and Switzerland here, but I'm sure this is replicated throughout the world), geographic or political heritage.

Wouldn't it be easeir to list countries where they don't fly Revs?

Probably not - on two counts:

  • I'd suggest there will be many smaller countries where no Rev flyers exist in Africa, Eastern Europe/Asia, maybe South America too; and,
  • from a practical point of view, it would be almost impossible to get direct and authoritative 'negative' responses - at best it will be hearsay or third-party reporting.

We're breaking down the USA by state as it's the home country for Rev, a bit of local mapping if you will...

Internationally, we'll keep it to whole countries, and what I'm looking for (due to my own ignorance) is a reading from YOU as residents of those countries, how they should be listed. ;)

JB that seems very simple to me.

USA is the Home of Rev and that makes absolute sense. Also by its nature some States of the US will have more Rev flyers than say Finland.

So again makes sense for Rev to know where it's "local" customers are.

PS if your Country is not yet represented simply contact your local dealer and get a REV :kid_smartass: I can say that as I'm not an employee of Rev - Just LOVE flying their kites !!!

Hmmm! Presumably the company has figures relating to USA sales as opposed to 'export' sales. Obviously retailers in the USA may have been making 'export' sales as well which may not register with the company.

I am wondering how the figures shake down but obviously it is a commercially sensitive matter so we may never know.

In total numbers how does 'the rest of the world' shape up against USA sales?

Aloha John...and all

Thinking about all the Revs around the wold, how about having a designated Rev kite fly day?

Set a day for each country or the world to fly revs. Or at least set up one's Rev. and take a picture if not possible to fly etc. Don't know if a "world" fly day would work or not, it would be pretty cool though to have everyone who has a Rev. on the forum and all to fly their Rev. on one specific day and document it with a picture etc.

Could be something like a day in the world of Rev. kites.

If possible, take pictures of the flying and upload the pictures to a designated website.

All sorts of happenings could come from that, besides a lot o smiles, fun and joy.

Rev. world fly calendar for one, or by country calendars etc.

Media being informed around the world where some flying is happening.....could be a good thing for sales and advertisement for Rev, the kiting world, businesses and participants.

Instead of the expenses, time and transportation etc. for a large kite fly, each person could fly on the designated day where they choose to, group or no group etc.

Gloria Stewart, the late Titanic actress, had a wonderful display of her kite works at the 2010 Nationals in one room. One poster that was on display in the room had a quote she wrote that I think might be appropriate for this. My wife and I really liked it.

"To fly a kite is to love the sky"

Rev's first annual world Kite flying day.

Sounds like fun. What would be cool is to make a picture / poster of several Rev. kites using all the photos from the flying day.

Keep on dreaming and chasing rainbows

Steve

I've not looked into it but might there be a possible tie in with something like Google Earth here?

Please Note: The question may belong here, but any resulting discussion may drag this thread way off topic. therefore I have double posted to create an off-shoot thread in "Open Topic" for this discussion.
