KiteLife
FYI, let's make this really clear... You cannot order these yet, there is no color info available, no specs, so relax. News will hit here first when they're available for order, recurring contacts with Rev or your retailers will only serve to annoy. Y'all know what I mean... It's all good, just wait it out, they'll be here soon enough. Thanks!
Morrunya
Ladies and gents, hold onto your hats... SMOOTH doesn't begin to describe it. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>-- (I know the music is Chinese style, but it was the best music we had available for this video) -- 使用されている楽曲は中国風音楽ですが、禅(ZEN)の誕生に相応しい荘厳さを持って いるためあえて使用しています。 -- Look at the loading during rotation and transitions, simply awesome. Flies like a slightly slower B-Series 1.5, less springy/zippy, but with more expansive controls and smoothness of handling. Never mind the light wind abilities, above and beyond! Lookin very good! KiteLife
I want to stress, the Zen is only *slightly* slower than it's 1.5 cousin... We've been able to tune it to get very good speed back in, it was a tad slow before.

JMZ
OT !! What character encoding do I need to set in my browser so that I can read the following: -- (I know the music is Chinese style, but it was the best music we had available for this video) -- 使用されている楽曲は中国風音楽ですが、禅(ZEN)の誕生に相応しい荘厳さを持って いるためあえて使用しています。 -- It looks like this in my Firefox:
JMZ
There are some claims of vapor flying from some. Barry, I'm completely unfamiliar with 'vapor flying'... can you explain what you mean by this please? Thanks, John
Baloo
What did the hairs on the back of your neck tell you the wind speed was in the latest video John?
KiteLife
I had about 2-3mph, sometimes 4mph. JMZ: It's Japanese, should be an option to activate it in any modern OS, no download required.
REVflyer
Well, I've been on record for an order since first touching a Zen months ago, so I will sit patiently a while longer. (Summer in DC is when this thing would have been most appreciated anyway!) Hot fade color pattern w/black center, SUL leading edge sleeve, race frame, (the bridle and fancy kite sleeve case is not necessary). If an all white sail were to become available (and it's polyester fabric NOT nylon!) I would take one of those as an option, then maybe I can "influence" KiteSquid to tie-dye it for me! Or I could no-sew some holographic foil stamping material I've been saving for a night-time Zen experience (like Olivier Reymond does on his Genkis). Could somebody please whip-up and publish the diagram & dimensions for the French Bridle, based upon this new size format in the mean-time, okay? I should also decide now which kite gets pulled out of the A-Bag, so there's room for this new addition. -paul PS: Barbara will be so pleased it's not ready yet though! <LOL!>
JMZ
OT - Thanks JB, I tried all 3 Japanese encodings in FF 3.1... a no-go. I'm still on IE 6 and won't budge up there. What's it say? Can someone post a screen-grab? ( really not important, please don't let me distract the thread too much with this ) JM
JMZ
Is it possible to build the frame for the Zen (Rev 1 size) using rods from a 1.5? It would definitely be persuasive if I could use my brand-spankin'-new, yet unopened 2-wrap frame on one of these skins. If the verticals are 31", maybe all it would take is a single extra le single-ferruled spar to lengthen that span?
REVflyer
you'd need some extra solid carbon ferrules, two-part 5 minute epoxy and high-speed dremel to cut down and re-assemble,... a stock REV 1 frame would both easier and better though. Anything is possible!, but most aspects of kite design and building are about compromises. You'd be adding weight and changing the flex positions of the spars by your optional method being questioned here.
KiteLife
Rev 1 rods (like in the Zen) are 36". You could hodge-podge 1.5 rods together, but with that much wingspan, the torque on ferruled joints becomes more of a factor, as does their effect on the smooth curve/load in the leading edge (which is critical)... Possible in a pinch, but definitely not ideal. Also, while it's on my mind... I want to passionately thank everyone who put time on the Zen during testing, your input and encouragement have been invaluable... And especially to my left-hand man (on iQuad), Steve de Rooy, who put in a significant amount of time on the prototypes, very much helping shape this final beauty. Love you all! JMZ
15" on the LE and 5" on each vertical. 25" total. That's one rod, cut in four, with four ferrules. hmmmmm Thanks Rev 1 rods (like in the Zen) are 36". REVflyer
Mike, we arrived at the same conclusion too, back in 1999 for our knock-offed no-sew version. It was designed around the SLE tube and flew in zero wind. All that mass packed at the leading edge made throwing it around like a dream come true! KiteLife
Quick update folks, sad tidings... I will not have the finished Zen prototype with me at Cape Fear, as Bazzer needs it for reference during the next few weeks. I'm probably more disappointed than you are, was really looking forward to putting hours on it and letting y'all feel it out. Sorry, out of my hands! How about bringing the ones used in WSIKF? They might not be perfect, BUT we were still flying them in under 2 mph!!!! See you on the beach, baby!!!! KiteLife
These are still Pros, so while Bazzer and I will be working on a "release" color set, same methodology applies on your end. @ Laura, sorry love, those kites are bagged for good... There is such a difference in handling with the final proto, I don't want to allow fliers a *moment* of decision based on the old ones. There is such a difference in handling with the final proto, I don't want to allow fliers a *moment* of decision based on the old ones. That's a shame to pitch the prototypes ... Since I'm much older, I could really go for the Retro-Zen concept. And, with my flying skills, you could call it the Placebo-Zen and I wouldn't know the difference. Or, with Bazzer's salesmanship, you could call it the BazZen. "Victoria" could really use a friend ... another white sail to share the kite bag with ... Cheers, Tom

Note the horizontal handles. This will work with the Zen I suspect. Felix
