RevJB
Buckingham Fountain, Grant Park, Chicago, IL I flew with Rich (quaa714) in Naperville on Sunday and then ran into him while he was flying at Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park. He was nice enough to let my daughter (and me) fly his kite. Apologies for the cellphone quality picture. Rich entertained everyone walking by and gave lessons to several people. All of this with a Gomberg Rev on concrete. The best was 15 minutes entertaining a school group of 5 year olds. Rich is an unbelievable good-will ambassador for Revolution and kite-fliers. Edit: Fortunately, the kids had a good photographer with them and he posted to Picasa. I've updated the photos. AND, that's a great spot to fly kites in the heart of downtown! There are decent winds off of lake Michigan usually, plenty of spectators to witness your antics and footing that allows you to run all around with confidence (3D stuff) at Buckingham Fountain. I get to Chicago occasionally for business every year or so, used to live there, my sister still does and the old college roomies are still around so we can relive our former glory days (HA!) Here's an unrelated to kiting example: We used to do the "Five in 50" back in the Michael Jordan era. That's five sporting events in fifty hours! Two NBA, a NHL, an NFL, plus a college football game, all in a single weekend. Man those were some howling times, but I only went a couple of times, (then got into kiting as an addiction to replace all my other activities). One time we were late for Soldier Field, so the bus driver drove the wrong way on Lake Shore Drive, . . . towards oncoming traffic. Naturally we were stopped by the Police and Joe gets out, talks to the cops, then points at a gate that's locked across the highway. The cop opens the gate, stops all 4 lanes of traffic and we drive underneath the stadium walls onto the playing field and park there! That way when we wanted adult beverages we didn't have to wait in line. Unbelievable good times, but I'm not built to party with those Animal House buds anymore! The smallest group for any event was 22 people, but you only got a plaque if you did all 5 events. (9 of us accomplished that mission, according to the plaque hanging in my office!) Scott_of_melnsct
In my previous posts were pics from the site of the 1969 Woodstock music festival. The next day we spent some time in NYC flying in Battery Park. In the background (centered) of the second pic is the statue of liberty. Hi RevJB- Glad you got to meet and fly with Rich. Probably one of the things we enjoy doing most is target practice.... on anyone in range!!!! His range is quite large as he'll run toward moving objects!!! The Buckingham Fountain is gorgeous. I would love to fly there someday. Hi John- I know I can speak for the team and say that we would LOVE to get out there and fly with you all. Thanks for the photo update; very cool!!!!! I'm not sure who smiles more: the kids or us big kids during "target practice". Thinking... Thinking... rcom714
What a great time I had on Sunday in Naperville with the fine folks out there. No pictures just good memories! Monday in Grant Park was amazing! 70 degrees and clear blue skiexs. 50' x 50# on the G series was perfect for fountain flying. SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!! So many targets. John (RevJB) and his 11 year old daughter Lauren came out to meet me and let me tell you, Lauren is quite the Rev pilot!!!!!!!! Here are a few snaps from my BB. Jeepster
Okay, a famous place might be stretching this shot a little bit, but I couldn't resist. Went to the Cabo International Kite Festival ... a fun kite party attended by kitebuilder folks. Dave and Susan Gomberg brought along several of their newest creations. Simply couldn't resist decorating the Zebra with my McKite Rev. I was their token Rev flier. Flew a single line part of the time, but had the most fun flying a Rev in amongst the show kites. Cheers, Tom

Felix
On our way to WSIKF, we took a little detour through the Badlands of South Dakota. Fascinating place... After visiting Lolly and Co. in San Diego whichever year it was, I flew to Chicago on the way to Madison for Kites on Ice and had an aerial view of the Grand Canyon. Mad stuff, geologically, for sure. Felix
Stephen Hoath
Susan, the boys and i spent the afternoon flying kites in Vanier Park, Vancouver. As luck would have it we bumped into David Hathaway, Lam Hoac and Kal. That's serious kite pedigree in anyones book. Thanks for a great day flying guys and see you in WSIKF.
