Felix
OK, so how about identifying an event for 2009? I think that it should be a 'Kite Fliers' event rather than a public event but this would mean that we would have to dig even deeper into our pockets to make it happen. At the outset I am going to emphasise that I AM NOT the organiser of such an event! <grins> Best wishes Felix

jay1957
I didn't think of that. I better start saving then Cant think of a better reason to apply for a passport either. Make it somewhere warm, no point in leaving ole blighty if its going to be cold.

Felix Sounds like a great idea. It might help smooth the process is there was somewhere nearby for partners and families to go whilst we have fun. (But not so fun that they spend all my money) Berkley may be a good idea as you have San Fransisco and large bits of California on the door step. Felix
I got the impression that there was not much space at Berkeley (Spelling?)Felix I have just had a conversation with 'someone' who has offered to help with the fund raising process. We need to come up with a proposed venue and to begin collating material in order to develop a proposal. Is there anyone on the forum who has practical experience in this area? Please contact me accordingly. Thanks Felix
melnsct
Wildwood, NJ has a lot of space!!!
Fraserx
How about the 21st Anniversary of Revolution at Berck next Feb...? Everyone I spoke to said Berck's just brilliant - enormous beach, perfect constant wind, slightly better food than Brit rip-off beach/event catering and all the Europeans can get there easily. Sure, the Yanks'll all need to travel millions of miles, but they love it really...

Stone in Shoe Bob
A few disjointed thoughts, requests and questions, in no particular order, I think it’s called brain storming. Any questions are just that, questions, nothing is intended to be a criticism and no questions are aimed at anybody in particular but are open for discussion. 1. Before anybody starts talking about booking international travel and possibly intercontinental travel perhaps people ought to start thinking about weather or not to make it an invitation only event. I know it’s hard but it would ensure a more predictable skill level. 2. I’m not sure I understand the reasoning behind Felix’s comment “I think that it should be a 'Kite Fliers' event rather than a public event”. I would have thought it would be advantageous all round to piggyback onto an existing event. It reduces organisational work from our end and acts as a draw for any existing festival. I do appreciate that having to fit into an already crammed program causes a few problems given that it takes a while to get that many kites set up in an arena but maybe if a festival was chosen that coincided with a local public holiday, they could be persuaded to extend for one day with just the one record attempt on the program, something like Portsmouth did for the Rev Clinic this year. I’m not suggesting Portsmouth btw, see 3 below. 3. If it is going to be an expensive trip (and wherever it is it’s going to be expensive for someone) I think it is important to find a location with reliable weather, wind was great at Portsmouth this year but last year we had less than we had this Saturday at Bristol. From what was said at the weekend it sounds like the weather is far more predictable in some parts of the US. 4. The rules need to be formalised (yes I know the processed over in the other thread) then perhaps get these guys involved, once we get official recognition we can get publicity, and it’s a lot easier to get financial backing if we can get publicity. 5. Can we do it on a beach please (assuming I’m invited see 1 above), I’ve never flown on a beach and I told it’s soooo sweet?

Stone in Shoe Bob
What about the San Diego ( however it spelt) area.Rev's birthday in their hometown. Sounds a good idea but I think I heard someone say yesterday than conditions are not great in San Diego it's self. Please someone tell me I'm wrong 'cos it would be a lovely idea. Choccy
oh Bob you so have to find yourself a half decent beach and just fly
jay1957
There is no official record for team synchronised flying. But 710 kites were flown simultaneously during theDrachenfest in ST Peter-Ording,Germany on 9th August 2008. That apart from endurance flights is the only record. Just thought you would like to know. Thanks Bob
fortflyer
If in the US I would suggest Wildwood NJ being as its a huge beach always has wind off the water and is one of the biggest and ever growing festivals in the US. Oh and did I mention highly televised plus the bonus of tons of tourists to see that sort of event. Being prepared properly that could also maybe fall into the worlds largest kite festival as well
Jonesey
oh Bob you so have to find yourself a half decent beach and just fly Bob... There's always a bed at Jones towers if you need some coast time and remember Portsmouth is the best kind of beach .... No Sand My local beach is all sand at low tide but the novelty of washing out rods and sails soon wears off and I tend to stick to the grass behind..... Still .... Wildwood looks nice and a bit of sun wouldn't go amiss! But good luck trying to find any sort of guaranteed breeze for 2009 .... I have competed at most of the world's great sailing venues and the most clichéd comment you hear is 'Its not normally like this' .... becalmed off Hawaii, waiting for wind in San Francisco ...... either way the scenery's normally better then Southsea so I'm in if you need someone to make sure everyone gets to the arena on time
Stone in Shoe Bob
@ Jonesey Thanks for the offer mate but one is having to tread a little carefully at the moment, two consecutive weekends away and SWMBO is a little prickly at the moment, I think I need to keep my head down for a while especially when you look where this thread could be going. Thanks Bob There is an Official World record for Team dual line flying as set at Thurrock England in front of The guinness World Record TV programme with Cheryl Baker & (me) as the official judge. Most records are simply records but there are one or two Guinness World records, note not all world records or guinness records get in the book.
