timwetter
Well, at this moment in time I'm about 6,000 miles from home yet I sometimes feel like I'm still there due to my slingbox. I get the family chat to my iPhone and sometimes just get the OH to let it stream video, I just log on and see my girls at play. Got it rigged to a Satcomm link. If any technohead loves to be 'home whilst away' Get one! They seem to be made for 'us who travel'

Mitchy
Anyone used the video camera yet?How is it? Hi John, Only had a chance to do a short video at night last weekend at the Southampton festival. It was a prototype of a 14ft delta kite that was made with banks of LED's that even manage to mix colours. I did upload the original to YouTube from the phone and then done a small edit with iMovie when I got home. LED Delta Movie
fortflyer
Good test for video seems to handle it pretty well for a phone.
KiteLife
I'm also curious about how big the files are, and if there's a limit on length of filming?
Mitchy
I'm also curious about how big the files are, and if there's a limit on length of filming? I will check for you in the morning John, I did see it was compressing the file before the upload to YouTube. It's a bit late here and I'm knackered, just watching the news with the death of Michael Jackson, but time for bed. regards

Baloo
Hi folks. Out of interest is free Skype available on iPhone in a similar way to Three?
timwetter
Hi folks.Out of interest is free Skype available on iPhone in a similar way to Three? Yes, but only over wifi on 'standard' iPhone. If jailbroken then use voip3g, makes skype think your on wifi, works well both ways and ALL iPhone models (Inc S)
AdventureAng
Does anybody know if this is a simple upgrade, or do you have to save all your songs, etc. I have the first version of the iPhone and when I upgraded to 2.0, it wiped out EVERYTHING (unless you coppied everything over: which turned out to be one huge headache). So is this a simple upgrade like all the other ones, or is this another one of those it-wipes-everything-out deals?

Mitchy
I'm also curious about how big the files are, and if there's a limit on length of filming? Hi John, Just checked the file sizes, A 640x480 55 seconds clip = 24.5mb When uploaded to YouTube = 3.1mb mp4 Not sure if there is any limit on filming other than the remaining space of the 32gb. Will give it a try over the weekend. regards

Do 3.0 upgrade then select the DATE of the backup you want then iTunes will replace your apps. Data like notes etc should also be restored to the new OS too. I only lost jailbroken apps and data contained within them, had to re-jailbreak and reinstall manually. The 2.0 upgrade was a complete redo of the OS, a total reprogram of the device and iTunes to boot. Hope this helps tim
sailor99
Yep, the 3.0 upgrade worked better for me than the previous 2.X ones in terms of keeping media and apps. The previous upgrades stopped a number of my apps working until I reinstalled them
Jeff
Found that 3.0 isn't really worth the hype.Safari loads a tad quicker but thats about all i've noticed. I disagree...for me, totally worth it. (I have the Touch, not the iPhone.) For the 2x playback on podcasts alone, 3.0 is worth it to me. Spotlight search is also a great improvement. Cut/copy/paste (finally) helps a lot. Haven't used bluetooth headphones yet, but eventually. And those are just the obvious things.
Mike
I agree with Jeff. In addition I also really like the variable audio scrubbing for listening to podcasts.

Yes, that's nice too, and the 30 second replay. Although I'd actually rather it be about 10 seconds. Auto wifi login sounds good too, although I haven't had the opportunity to use that. Would be handy with a hotspot that has a login procedure.

Would be handy with a hotspot that has a login procedure. It hasn't worked for me. Just have to wait a while while the screen flashes and it doesn't log in. Then I log in manually like before. KiteLife
Eh, I hate having such a short viewing window... Rather see more and deal with the smaller keyboard.
JD
Having a larger window is great, I just can't type for crap with the narrow keyboard. With the larger landscape one I have no problems.

cordover
There is an iPhone app that measures windspeed. Called windspeed and I recall it's 99c. I haven't checked it against anything gold standard, but subjectively it seems pretty accurate. You hold the microphone into the wind and it measures pressure. Then you turn the phone around and take a picture of your flight, and then call the fam to see if they need milk on the way home.
