big bri
TBH Gary, while this nice enough ,,Radical,, type guy was telling me the wonders of Power kiteing and how Extreme they all where[My Eyes had Glazed Over Ages Ago],Hardcore, and how they hadnt slept for 24hrs +[try haveing kids i thought,i havent slept since i was Twenty Five].The wind just blew upto a Sweet 6mph and my Sedgewick and B Series started calling me.He did threaten to get his Rev out later, but he never showed.Had a few others come over to me. One CoolDude [here we go i thought, why me]insisted on flying my Rev.I dont mind at all helping or even letting someone use my Older Stuff. In fact as Andy and many others will vouch, it gives me a real kick seeing someone enjoy useing a nice kite, but Not My Sedgewicks or B Series. After he had showed me an old move i havent done for a long time,The Smash my Fav kite in the DECK routine, instead of doing a proper dive stop.I insisted he get his from his SCOOBY DOO VAN as the wind was a little low for most people[Perfect actually]and the Rev One Lee Sedgewick was a sorta Specialist kite[to me its special].His mate was half decent though.Looked like hed just come streight out of a Nineteen eightys Fat Willies Surf Shack, but a real nice fella, nice enough to use my older 1.5 sle and set it up himself[a life saveing move for him ].Nice company and very freindly bunch, just,,,they where Power Kiters. If you know what i mean. They where camping on the Beech that night. From what they said it was a 6hr buggie race and then would also go again at night.Ther wasnt any sea involved, just land based stuff. Looked fantastic as a backdrop, with Hoylake and Welsh Wales in the Distance. A great day, hope Fleetwood on Sunday is half as good. BRIAN... Definitely agree there. Just a quick question: what spars are you using in you sedwick rev 1? SLE? 4 wrap? P200? P300? Andy
big bri
Hi Andy,i am 99% sure ther Rev Equiped ones.I was also useing Shanti 120ft X 50lb lines. Best ive flown a rev.I was just so focused on my own.Time flew by.No real distractions, perfect conditions, and Cafe del mar [no13]DOESNT GET ANY BETTER[so far] . One nice old guy and his grandson came over and said,I BET YOU DONT CHEW FRUIT PASTELS, DO YA. As nice a complement ive had or he was meaning i need to loose some inchs off my waistline BRIAN... Andy3141
Hi Andy,i am 99% sure ther Rev Equiped ones.I was also useing Shanti 120ft X 50lb lines. Does that mean that a rev 1 with a "rev equipped" (4 wrap) frame will fly well in winds as low as 6 mph? Thanks Andy
big bri
Andy,my appols mate ther not Rev Equiped, ther my spare set.I will check 2Moz for ya. BRIAN...

fortflyer
Just to add some clarity 3 and 4 wrap spars come in 2 thickness's 1/2 inch / 1.27 cm these come in 3 wrap marked Ultra Light and 4 wrapped marked Rev Equipped, these are allot heavier and very stiff made for high winds. or 1/4 inch / .624 cm these come in 2 wrap marked Professional Use, 3 wrap marked Ultra Light, 4 wrap marked Rev Equipped and now the new Race Spar lighter than 2 wrap with the stiffness of a 3 wrap, these are for lighter wind use or for more flexibility as the 4 wrap can take you to over 20 mph on a standard 1.5, not sure what the rating is for a Rev 1 The thinner rods will give you more flexibility for lighter winds while still providing the strength for the higher wind, you just have to determine what needs you have and match them to the appropriate frame. I have flown a Rev 1 with 1/4" 4 wrap in pretty low wind, I would have preferred a 3 wrap or a 2 wrap down low. You could always get the best of both worlds and get a complete 3 wrap frame with a extra 4 wrap leading edge to swap for the higher winds, the 3 wrap down spars will hold up well my main concern would be the LE and if you really want to get full use a 2 wrap LE as well would cover you totally. Also you could always double up on the LE like they do with the B-series to give you yet even more flexibility.
big bri
Thanks Jim,its a little bit of a minefield at first with the diffrent kite and spar variatons. Ive sent Andy a message[pm],to explain.Your clarification is a good help. Cheers BRIAN...
clare
Well what can I say? Ive just got back from the best fly I have had in my life - ever. Now this isnt exactly hard, seeing as how Ive only been flying rev's for a couple of months, but today I felt like a real proper rev flyer. Im getting so much more confident and loving it so much more (if thats possible). The kite just seemed to do what I wanted it to do, rather than almost nearly doing it! And the back drop for this amazing experience? - Ainsdale! Life doesnt get better than Ainsdale beach, a rev and some wind!

Choccy
p.s. slightly off topic. Portsmouth Festival this year. Should be a large Rev mega team. Come and see how we get it wrong. I sure there will be space for a few add hoc flying sessions. Portsmouth 2007, pics of TFS doing what they love to do - see while the pics are still available, as I am going to have to free up space for this years festival pictures soon: http://www.oxygene.demon.co.uk/gallery/kitefest0736.htm the adhoc flying session Stephen mentioned picture can be viewed here (5th picture down): http://www.oxygene.demon.co.uk/gallery/kitefest0732.htm I personally love the Crazy Drivers shot. Back on topic... am really trying to find a decent flying site which has clean wind and good space. I would love to get to a beach but that is a bit far for the summer evenings. Is it very slopey at Barbury castle Wilts. ? I know they use Middle Wallop for Power kiting but is it open for general kite use ???
sailor99
Is it very slopey at Barbury castle Wilts. ? Well, there is a slope to get up there - but that is what cars are for . Ant-
My favourite spot is the Uffington White Horse in Oxfordshire - about a 20 mile drive from home. Been flying this & that there for nearly 20 years, and it was here I had my first go of a Rev, courtesy of a visiting strager - never seen him again, but thank you wherever you are! Took this panorama once chilled evening last summer during an after-work fly There's also some ropey self-filmed video here... http://antsnest.blip.tv/file/367622/ Just realised that's from 2 years ago - and only a month or so after getting it - I think I've got steadily worse since then! You get a good assortment of flyers at the weekend, but mostly families with single liners. Ant Ant
