Help Please...

I have previously asked if those teams/fliers that are in a position to confirm their attendance at the Portsmouth/Bristol events to let me know and now also ask them to let me know if that information can be made public.

I am aware that efforts to get funding are continuing and that it may not be possible to confirm all details at this stage.

The potential list looks very exciting!

iQuad are looking at the possibility of running a fund raising event between Portsmouth and Bristol. There is a discussion -> over there.

There is a Press Call on Thursday 28th August in Bristol. As with Monday 25th August which is a Bank Holiday Friday 29th August could be a 'warm up day' ahead of the possible opening Rev Auction evening event.

Any thoughts very much appreciated.

Hi Felix, the video is on VHS, and its from Blackheath which was the STACK Uk Nationals & I believe Euro Cup. The particular segment is from Left to Right

Jake "I have long hair and look like a hippy" Twyford

Felix " " Mottram

Tim Paget

Romney " I Have hair?" Johnstone

Jorgen Muller Hansen Rev 1's

Flying to Revolution by the Beatles followed by Within You Without You, The Beatles

If you ment what moves.... 2 line infinity, then kisses, stacks (2's then in 4)

Hi Simon,

I tend to have moments of lapsed concentration. It is probably an age thing now... forgetting to focus on the kite I am flying in the team 'an all that'.

We do not admit to 'practice' and to quote someone quite famous in another disclipline (this may be slightly contentious but please forgive me) 'we are not civilians here'.

It is extremely exciting.....

What were we flying in 1991?

Best wishes

Felix

Hi Simon,

That would be 'interesting' to see!

Euro Cup was Montpelier in 1991 I think!

OK I must have the wrong year then, what about 90? or 92, just been trying to find stuff from STACK - very thin on the ground? What happened to all the Euro cup results?

Looks like it was 90 @ Blackheath Euro Cup 1

At Bristol, the Saturday night party is open to all Festival guests and flyers - the on-site bar is open and we have the general auction (raises money for the Festival), followed by night flying and fireworks. [...]

Lynn

Sorry to ask silly obvious questions (to those in the know), but where exactly at Bristol and Pompie do these 'parties' take place ?

Or is it only a reward for participants in the arenas to attend and not general public who are enthusiatic and fly and have lots of different kiting friends in various clubs & teams ??? :blue-confused:

It was summer Blackheath, UK Nationals Decs Demo'd. I'll burn to DVD for you Felix.

PS I have found the scores for Euro cup II which was hard as they are not on the Web.

At Bristol, the on-site party is held in the main marquee and (almost) anyone is welcome to stick around for the auction, night flying, fireworks and a drink or three (the bar is open til 11). The meal is by ticket only, but some tickets are available on the day (from AKF) and some of the food traders may stay open later. The party is not open to the 'general' public, as our licenses would not allow (and it would be chaos!). But if you're 'part' of the Festival in that you are linked with other teams and are there to join in (rather than just sit and watch as a 'normal' punter), then you're welcome to come!

I hope this helps! It is a bit confusing as Ashton Court is public space (although technically it shuts to the public at sunset), but we 'hire' our bit of it from the council for the event, so are therefore responsible for who is there and what happens.

Cheers,

Lynn

Simon,

Thanks! I look forward to seeing the DVD.

As for the scores... Well, does it matter?

When we gave up competing we found that we kept on winning. Quite mysterious really especially as viewed from many years later.

The Mantra is 'we don't compete, we just fly kites'.

Bristol flyers web info needed

Hi all,

I've put a 'Rev flyers' page on the Rev section of the Bristol Kite Fest website, so it would be great to have a list and bit of info for anyone who is planning to come, as info for other flyers and the public.

If you would like to be listed, can you please send me a short bio of your team/you, names of who will attend, if you have come to Bristol before and a website if you would like a link. Also, I'm not sure if I can get photos up, but will give it a go so one or two good images would be great. And feel free to link to our new site, www.kite-festival.org.uk, from any site you may have.

Please email the info and images to [email protected] and please mark it for my attention.

Thanks!

Lynn

I should be attending, I am also trying to make it to Bristol, however, no confirmation on Bristol yet, I will need some help to attend I also will post some video for all to see if they want, so thanks for your time, just wondering If I need to do anything else?

Hi Scott,

You were on the list twice!

Now corrected here and will upload next week.

Thanks

Felix

Hi all,

Here is the latest list. (Usual disclaimers apply) If and when your arrangement are confirmed please let me know.

Please let Avril and Lynn at Bristol have Biographies etc. for their site. The KSGB/Portsmouth may need information as well.

I am attempting to put together a couple of lines describing what we are hoping to achieve in this project and would welcome input! I just decided to throw caution to the wind and post what I have written so far here, as below.

Thanks

Felix

"<Revolution Kite Project Portsmouth/Bristol 2008 20th Anniversary Event

'As experienced' Kitefliers 'we' are familiar with the Rokakku Battles at UK

Kite Festivals inspired by Martin Lester using modern sails and spars.

These spectacles may currently be the epitome of mass ascension with

contemporary kites.

Seeing 20 or more kites ascending together is without doubt, 'an

inspiration'.

However, over the last 20 years a new possibility has arisen for a large

number of kitefliers to launch their kites and make a 'presentation in the

sky'. Using the latest developments from Revolution Kites '...' we are

planning for between 40 and 60 fliers to launch their kites in a three

dimensional formation and 'perform an organised routine'. '...'

Whereas the Rokkaku Battle is one where the last remaining kite is the

winner the Revolution kites offer the opportunity to the fliers to

co-operate and invent 'as they go' with everyone sharing the prize.

A number of extremely experienced teams are preparing for the Portsmouth and

Bristol events and will be co-opting individual fliers as well. Both

festivals have made provision for dedicated flying areas to be made

available for the teams to prepare for the spectacle. This will also

provide the spectators with the opportunity to 'witness the development of

the project' throughout the day at both festivals.>"

Hi all,

Please note that both Portsmouth and Bristol Festivals have allocated available funds at this stage and that responding to further requests either privately or publicly means that resources have to be directed away from their potential further fundraising efforts.

In the event that additional funds are raised 'I suspect that' they will be directed to those teams/fliers who have made the committment to attend the events under their own resources.

'The usual disclaimers apply' in respect of the list that I have been maintaining. It would be very helpful to know when attendance can be confirmed so that we know where we are in respect of the potential 'headline' figures, currently 42 at Portsmouth and 64 at Bristol.

I would be interested to know how many people will stay on at Portsmouth on the Monday and how many would arrive at Bristol on Thursday (Press Call pm) or Friday.

Thanks

Felix

I see it's about an 80 mile drive from Gatwick to Portsmouth, not too bad. ;)

With that in mind, we'd likely show up in Bristol on Thursday morning (Aug 28) if we're covered for a hotel on that night.

We'll probably do a bit of touring on 25, 26 and 27 after Portsmouth, depending on where we end up staying for the in-between.

Hi John,

As previously mentioned there may be a 'caravan'. Let us know about the touring. The Decs may descend on Weston-Super-Nightmare for historical reasons...

(we decided to give up competitive kite flying when we were at the Barcelona pre-olympic event. W-S-M was the following weekend!)

Best wishes
