lutinplunder
Just wanted to introduce myself, bought a Rev 1.5 SLE over memorial day weekend from Cutting Edge Ktes in Ocean Shores, flew it for 2 days in great winds on the beach. Wishing I had bought a 1.5 B... maybe I can talk the wife into taking the SLE and letting me get a Barresi (sp?). Anyway I live in Tacoma and want to know if there are any local fliers around who know of some good places to fly, that aren't a 2 hour drive like Ocean Shores (wife says I need to stop going there as I keep coming back with kites ). I unfortunately work swings so all I can usually do is watch the wind from my shop, never any good wind before 1pm when I have to go to work. robalex
I also am a newbie Rev flier, having recently bought a Rev 1.5 SLE from The Kite Connection in Huntington Beach. The reason I used this supplier was I found that it was cheaper to import a kite from USA than to buy one locally in Australia, not that there are very many outlets who handle this product. Also I have found that the supply of spare parts are readily available from the States, which is not the case in Australia. I am new to the art of quad line flying, and finding it rather challenging. As a senior flyer, my reactions are not as quick as they used to be. I live in Melbourne, Australia and would be interested in making contact with other Rev flyers in this part of the world. At the moment we are in the middle of winter, so the chances of flying are rather limited, although I managed a couple of hours in a local park the other day. Alex. I'm in Seattle and pretty new to Revs as well....my job takes me to Tacoma almost Daily. At least you have mornings to get out and fly. Try to make it to Ocean Shores this weekend....there will be A LOT of Rev Flyers there....like that little group that no one seems to know about....they call themselves.....IQUAD. You should check them out.....be careful though...they tend to get people hooked. Also, make sure to check out all the kitefestivals and functions happening this summer at the local beaches and parks. You should join AKA, and probably PCKF(?) Pierce County Kite Fliers....you can find their website and joining AKA definitely supports the cause. Also, check out the Kitelife site......it's a pretty good one and the guy that runs it seems to know a little about what he is doing. YOu should become a member there as well...again....supporting a worthy cause...not to mention a monthly shot at "free stuff". Welcome to the addiction. And about that wife....get used to it or get her involved. Maybe you could get her into making kites...or flying REVS with you as a team or a pair...then you could grow your skills together. A lot of warm, tender moments with your Rev Handles.... There are a lot of tricks that have been explained to me here to keep "those wives" at bay. Look through some of the old topics here and at Kitelife and you'll see what I mean. If you make it....see you at Ocean Shores. P

I live near Puyallup and I have had luck finding wind at the Tacoma waterfront at times. It really depends on direction of the wind and the proximity to the water. Vassault park on N. Pearl has some good winds and Ft. Steilicom Park is sometimes good also. All in all nothing is quite as good as the ocean beaches, We like to go to Graylands/Westport area. Let me know where you find to fly and maybe Ill see you there Steven
lutinplunder
Yeah as much as I tease my wife about it she's starting to get into flying she even tried the Rev out last weekend she caught on pretty quick and was able to keep the Rev airborne most of the time and relaunch it without having to do the walk of shame to many times. I'm DEFINITELY gonna try to make it to WSIKF in Long Beach (went a few years ago with my parents) look forward to meeting you Watty If I go, I don't know if I'll make it to OS this weekend or not gotta work Saturday till 3pm or so and church doesn't end until 1pm on Sunday, how long do the festivities usually last on those days? Yeah I'd love to meet some of the guys from IQUAD seen a bunch of their routines on YouTube (kinda what got me wanting a Rev). Thx Skitch I'll check out those sites (don't take me to serious about the wife just like teasing her ). St.Even, I'll have to try those places out, what kinda winds do you see there? P.S. Got bored this morning so I strung out my lines and found that the lower right was almost 2" longer than the upper, and the upper left was about an inch longer? is that normal for what I assume are factory rev lines (were in same sealed plastic bag as dvd, handles, etc.)? I couldn't get the knots in the line undone so I just added a knot on my handles to compensate, can't wait to try out the kite again, LOL I'm soooo hooked

KiteLife
lutinplunder, it's fairly normal for a new set of lines to "settle in" after a flight or two... Now that you've adjusted them, you should be a-ok.
St.Even
Wind is wind Lutinplunder it comes and goes , thats the nature of the beast! I had the opportunity to fly today on 30' lines at Hood canal after I got off work and it was very windy but always good. The wind always seems best when you cant fly & goes away whenever i set up my kite. Persevere and you'll get your kite fix, I carry at least one kite with me always(just in case). This coming weekend I'm looking forward to flying at Vanier Park in Vancouver & my next few weekends are planned too. There are many fun flys in our area Lutinplunder (ocean shores , graylands, marysville,Whidbey island) so try to plan around that, it's more fun with others. Email me at [email protected] if you want more local info. Steven

lutinplunder
Hey John, REALLY wished I had been able to make it to Ocean Shores this weekend. I've been wanting to get together with some other Rev fliers ever since I got mine. I did get down there on Monday only to be chased away my a storm , so i went over to Cutting Edge Kite and chatted with them for awhile before driving home (*SIGH* 4 hours of driving for about 1-2 hours of flying in some heavy winds 20+ I think). When i got home looked like there might be enough wind to go fly, so went to a local park. About all I got was some exercise, low wind flying on 85' lines = LOTS of running, did manage to get the kit to start a 360* but I ran out of room/steam about half way through . All frustrations aside I'm still really enjoying my kite, even if my wife thinks I'm turining into a Junkie, always looking for a fix . Father's day is coming up and I'm hoping to get either a shorter lineset or some lighter spars so I can fly in light winds a little easier, which do you all think would be better to get?
KiteLife
Assuming you have 80# or 90# lines already, a lighter frame would serve you better than shorter lines, IMHO.
lutinplunder
yeah i have to stock 90# 85' lines which spars do I need to get? all 5 or do i just need a few? I have the SLE frame if that makes a difference.
awindofchange
We have a pretty informative page on the different spars you can purchase for your Rev. Click here for the page. Rev 1.5 Replacement Shafts Hope that helps.

If not let me know and I will try to get some info to you.....it looks llike st. even can probably help as well. You should definitely put the Westport Kite Fest on your list of must go to events. The Westport Windriders put on a great event and there will be a lot of people there. It is just down the road from you....closer than Long BEach..I think. WSIKF....you gotta go to that one, and many others. We should all get together and fly our Revs. You, me and St.Even...and anyone else in the area that would like to join us. Maybe, those of us that are still learning, could get together and talk someone like Penny into joining us and helping us move forward a little faster. (I'm sure John would be too busy, but he might be able to recommend someone up here in the Seattle/Tacoma area. There is also the fathers day fun fly at Kite Hill in Seattle......to try out those new sticks. The Whidbey Island festival later in the summer. You should look into the Pierce County Kite Flyers...good group in your area that fly once a month pretty close to you. Also, the Westport Windriders have a fun fly every 4th Sat of the month....all year long. They are a great club to get to know....they have a meeting and pot luck dinner after they fly on Sat nights....you should look into joining them. You're close and it would give you another excuse to go to the beach. Again....very close to you. JOIN AKA......if you haven't already. We can all do a little more to get the word out and get everyone in the area a little more organized....especially those of us that are new to the hobby/sport. Hope this helps. I have the SLE frame if that makes a difference. When flying in light winds, I use 90# 30' (I would use 80# but I couldn't get it at The Kite Shoppe) lines with the EXP LE and Indoor Spars (2 wrap "professional; use only" very light) or 3 wrap "ultar light" spars. The SLE does make a difference.

lutinplunder
yeah Skitch I found the sites for those festivals/organizations and have been looking through their calenders. Not sure how many I'll be able to go to with my work schedule though. I'm definitely gonna try to go to WSIKF, trying to talk the parents into letting me borrow their motor home and taking the time off of work to make a 3 day weekend of it. As with most things in life the more you buy the cheaper it is. As there are not many fliers in AUS, there is little demand for specialty kites such as REV's. Therefore I have to buy in small orders which makes it more expensive. Here is a quote from the front page of our website though- Our Price Guarantee We believe we offer the best value kite gear around but we understand it makes sense to shop around so if you find a product we stock cheaper elsewhere just let us know and we will beat or at the very least match it. BrisKites is in the business of creating lasting customers by supplying good, clean and enduring fun, not just products. As for spare parts, sure we have them.
