Wanted Kite Sleeves

Hey All

Does anyone have a source of kite sleeves? Simple lightweight nylon sleeve 2 1/2" dia X 36 long.

I want to use them to keep my Rev's in while in my Large kite bag.

Wouldn't it be just as easy to make some up - really doesn't take long if you've got a metre or so of ripstop (proofed is good) a length of cord and a cordlock. If it's going in the kite bag you could avoid the complication of the cord and just have a fold-over velcro tab.

I know of a source, but he's in the UK so you may find a more economic solution locally.

You don't need to use ripstop. Any banner or canvas type material works great?

Use google to look around for canvas material. You'll come up with places like http://www.onlinefabricstore.net

I actually use my original sleeves that come with my revs.

My favorite kind of thread! I can't sew clothes for beans, so I relegate myself to useful items. Ripstop is nice, but its slippery. Canvas can work well because its substantial, but really isn't too much fun to try to roll up in that bag. A poly blend is somewhere nice in between and you can get a large variety of colors/styles on the cheap.

Most fabric is 54" wide, some is 45" wide.

Some walmarts still have the 1$/yard, ours up here have 1.50 and 2$/yard sections that have a large variety of textures and weaves of fabrics. If walmarts not your bag, head over to Michaels, Joanns, and theres several other chain fabric/crafts stores that all have a clearance section. Also keep an eye out for remnant pieces as they will always be less than a yard. A standard sleeve is 4-5" wide, plus hem allowance puts you at 1/4 to 1/3 of a yard depending on how straight they cut it. Roll over the top hem and use some bungee or just small cord from the ribbon section. Or like I made my recent spar sleeves, make it about 3-4 inches longer, spot stitch a piece of double sided velcro strap on the end, so that the extra fabric just folds over and the velcro goes around.

Now if you're a bit more planning than I am, you could add pockets to the outside of your sleeve, but it sounds like you already have a roll-up style bag which covers most of that.

Ah que sticks are something I never thought of. I have been using the flyrod case and it work GREAT!!. I think I could fit 6 revs in it stacked two rows of three side by side.

I;ll try to post some pix when I get it all put together..

The que stick case are awesome but too short for Revs. Would have been a great idea if they were only 36 in long.

The only downside to telescoping tubes is just that: pressure on the end can collapse them, even if they have some kind of detent system.

On the same page as the drafting tubes were nylon bags, 39" x 5 ", 2 for $5.98

Room for a kite and another set of spars or handles. Also would make a good "quick kit" for the trunk.

I bought two of these off EvilBay... a 3" and 5" diameter, for airline transport. They were less than $10 each and I taped the cylinder so it wouldn't collapse. Great protection!
