Alden, it will be nice to meet you face to face. Are you making the trip with your Airstream?

Sorry, no Airstream, just Southwest Airlines... I googled it, about 2900 miles of driving one way. Let's see, (5800/12mpg)*$3.00gal = $$$$

I do need a ride from Portland to Long Beach though so if you want to set your Airstream up at the airport I'd be glad to ride in the back all the way to long beach. I'd have to have the refrigerator running off of propane with a couple of adult beverages in it...

Hmmm... Adult beverages?

Aside from that it appears that the next magic number has been achieved. The 9 x 9 grid is there to be realised <grins>

That is four concentric circles with one kite in the middle and four groups of 16 and a static cross amongst other possibilities.

JB - Right now you have me, Jeanette and Ron on the list. Our child care situation has come together completely yet, so it may be necessary for Jeanette to sit out. If we can find someone to watch the kids fur the duration of the attempts then she is of course going to be in on it. Just wanted to let you know as you plan and count numbers.

Fully understood, thanks Mark. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Whatever the rights or wrongs of the British Airways dispute it seems that they, collectively, will not prevents us travelling. Now we just need to keep the lid on that volcano. It is a pity that BP cannot get the oil industry to provide a lid for their problem in the gulf... What a nightmare?

WSIKF!!

Getting close!!!

I have been reviewing the condo reservations that I have been able to grab and piece together for the week.

Being on a waitlist, I have been grabbing anything that they call and offer me, and decide what to do with it later.

GONE!!!! Thanks!!! See you there!!

One reservation I picked up is for 2 nights in a one bedroom (sleeps 4) for Friday and Saturday nights. That's checking in on Friday August 13th, out on Sunday August 15th. This is the weekend BEFORE the festival starts.

Before I cancel it, I thought I would offer it up here, in case anyone wanted to come into town for the weekend before.

Comparitable (older) condos in the area are $180 a night and up. Actually, IMO, there are no comparitables on the peninsula, as the Worldmark resort is the newest in town!! And it's a stones throw from where the Rev field will be set up right in front of the condo :)

https://www.worldmarktheclub.com/resorts/lg/

Cost is $150 a night for a total of $300. no additional taxes.

Send me a PM if interested.

Thanks!!

Theresa......working on next years reservations already.....and this will help to lock in iQuad's condo for next year!! Thanks!!

Alright! This is REALLY coming along now...

While the radios (walkie talkies) we've discussed for everyone will be critical for smaller practice grids and team flying, they presented a very real possible problem for the uber-mega fly if just one of the pilots was on transmit and didn't know it... Happens more than I'd like to admit, and it kills the ease of communication real quickly.

In light of this, the RevGuild club officers had a quick meeting and authorized the use of club funds to rent a small sound system for the whole week (special thanks to Kay at the World Kite Museum for getting us a good deal)... Two large speakers, two microphones, and my radio (walkie talkie) rig can run straight into it for broadcast across the field... It will also serve as a useful tool for on-field announcements, educating the audience and playing music for some parts of the day so we can have some good "event ambiance".

==

Now the problem... We don't yet have a generator to power the sound system.

Do one of you fine folks have a generator that we could use?

Along with the generator, two plywood boards that we can use to surround it for noise reduction.

We'd need to have it on the beach starting sometime on Monday (8/16), until late afternoon on Saturday (8/21).

It'd be a huge help, please let me know... Even better would be TWO generators, just in case, along with a gas can or two.

==

RevGuild will also be buying pizza for all attending Rev fliers midday on Friday. ;)

Seems like 9 x 9 is a pretty good number at the outset.

That will be a fairly substantial pizza.

I'm really looking forward to this event. It will be magic for all the participants and spectators.

I just obtained a set of radios for this event for pete's sake!

Thats means, for sure now, that someone will need to use these with me doing something productive in the practice stage or otherwise all week long. And "something" doesn't include Kite Cowboy cowboy.gif taunting me on them all week either!

Wow, six weeks away already, give or take?

Hehehehehehehe. :D

I have 82 folks on my master list at the moment, more will be there who just aren't in this Internet loop.

Strong advisory... If you've not flown in team formation before, or aren't 100% sure of your skills, I can't begin to sufficiently express the importance of showing up on the Rev field for at least one good session on Mon, Tue and/or Wed... What we're doing is attainable, but it's no joke, can't just walk into this and expect it to work.

The actual flying for 100 won't be SO difficult or complicated, but it will be specific, as will your position on the ground in relation to everyone else.

I will retain final word (with advisory from some of the other mega team veterans), if I need to sit someone out, I will do so affirmatively and respectfully, providing plenty of opportunity for them to overcome whatever hurdle I've observed so that they can come back and try it again on one of the other attempts.

Sound off, are we excited yet???? :D

Count on it brother, going to be PLENTY of in-between playtime where radios will be used. <grin>

Is anyone in the Spanaway area who can pick it up on their way down?

Not sure that we would have space even if we were in the area.

Could anyone recommend sensibly priced accommodation for the 4 Decs on Saturday night 14th August. We arrive at SEATAC late afternoon so I guess somewhere between the airport and Tacoma would be good.

We would be looking to make an early start on Sunday morning heading for Long Beach.

Thanks

Felix

Does anyone know where i could find a nice hotel to stay in. Im not to sure where to look. If you do know any, how much and such. Thanks!

Hi!

Glad you can make it!!

Here's a local list of all the motels http://www.funbeach.com/lodging/hotelmotelcottage.html

At this point, it's best to just start calling to see if there are any rooms. It could be anywhere from $80 a night to $150 a night.....

Long Beach is pretty small (condensed) so if you find anything in LB, you'll be good. Closest to where the Rev field is, would be the Edgewater on Sid Snyder (which is South 10th, approx 10 blocks south of Bolstad, the main beach approach road.

If you don't find anything available in LB, the next closest city that has motels is Astoria, Oregon. It's less than 20 miles to the south.
