MrDenny: Wash that line set in warm water with a bit of soft dish soap. Then re-coat them with a rag and some "sewers aid". You can find it in almost any sewing supply store local to you. It's silicone based and will help with rejuvenating a line set.

For all others considering using ArmorAll I would not suggest this. It's becoming more well known with car enthusiasts that it attracts dust and dirt and will actually dry out plastics if it's not applied on a regular basis.

I'll second the use of "sewers aid". We have several flyers here in the DC area who are using that and it works well. It also doesn't pick up sand, dirt, dust etc. the way that Armor All will. Plus, if you happen to be a kite builder...you now have two uses for it!

I tried the sewers aid on my and a friends line recently, the stuff is amazing.

It's really thick and coats well it turned dry rope like lines into slick as new without picking up dirt sand or grass. So far since I have put it on I have flown about 9 times with an average of at least 5 hours fly time up to 9 hours and they have not shown any signs of loss of slickness.

I'm sure with the beating I give my lines I'll have to apply once a month, most will probably have longer lasting results.

Excellent fix.

Why do I keep thinking of Draino and Liquid Plumber when I read "sewer's aid"?

Yup here too, I was ready to go the the plumbers supply looking for it

I'll tell you what its good stuff about 30 hours of hard flying so far in 15+ mph winds lots of spins ext. and they are still nice and slick. BTW I did it to 50ft lines anyone who has flown that length knows what a beating they take.

I haven't ANY of this stuff, being so new, but, given Jim's comments above, I'm wondering if this is something that should be done as a matter of course with every brand new lineset.

Now that I have used it I'm more likely to start sooner as in when you can feel the lines start to become coarse, the set I did were so bad 5 spins and you started loosing control. now bear in mind I fly pretty much everyday for 4 hours minimum up to yes 12 hours sometimes on weekends lol.

All that practice and you can't even do five spins without losing control.... Pah - you're rubbish, you are! :P

I picked up a bottle at my local fabric store. I won't get a chance to work on the lines for a week or so, but I'm ready now. It appears that you just put a drop on the line and then work it into the fabric and work it down the line. Sounds like a pretty long process. Do I get it right?

Thanks, Doug

I just soaked down a small corner of cloth and went the length of the line kind of rubbing back and forth at a slow walk one line at a time reapplying the aid between each line (80’). Then repeated it going the other direction. It seemed to be enough. Darn stuff doesn’t come with kite line direction. I'm open for better ideas.
