Tilt Shift

Any of you guys who like to play with photoshop will love this stuff if you haven't already seen it ... basically its a way of manipulating images to make them look like miniatures or models .. for example my crude attempt below (Jinx I hope you dont mind!) of Huntington ..

some more examples including a movie here...

Those are cool, I've seen that effect. (And done a few myself)

But I don't know how it became known as "tilt shift." Tilt shift camera lenses are for altering perspective, mainly for straightening lines in architectural photos.

That is cool. I haven't seen it before. The video was very cool.

Here's a quickie of some toy model revs at Kite Party

Nice work Papa Smurf those kites really do look like models .... unlike certain other people who could never be mistaken ;)

Since the pier cuts through at an angle, I had to play with the mask just a little. After doing the gradient mask, I used a brush in quick mask to add all of the pier to the blur.

Similarly, on the other photo you guys have been playing with--I wonder what it would look like if the kites weren't blurred at all or only slightly blurred. After you've done the gradient mask, go back in quick mask mode and use either a black or white brush to add the kites to the mask. I dunno, just wonderin'

Actually thinking about it ...... this one represents a much worthier endeavour ...... removing all evidence of Jeremy's trip to California ... not that I'm bitter you understand ;)

Now you just have to figure out who's flying 2 kites!

 You did a good job removing his shadow as well.

I'm thinkin' you need a trip to Wildwood next month to one up the Sailor.

Oops, left a bit of shadow underneath Lynn. I think you should photoshop yourself in the photo in place of Sailor.

I didn't notice that I was one of the models until Aerochic sharpened up the kites. But I'm not sure it works with the kite sharpened though. Maybe this sort of photo just doesn't lend itself well to this technique.

I thinks it's fun though. Next time I'm shooting photos I will be keeping an eye for photos that will easily convert to this style.

'left a bit' ...cheeky! ... but I agree the next time I get the camera out I will be looking for the right angle and shot to use :)
