sailor99
I find Chalky White and Mellow Yellow tend to mince more than wiffle to be honest. Red Adair just swaggers of course!

steveb
Do you listen to music when you fly, Choccy? It can be fun to make your kite 'dance' to the music. You can make it hop on one wing and then the other, shuffle side-ways, take a few steps forward... whatever strikes your fancy. I often fly at a local beach that has lots of things to interact with- logs, park benches, sign posts, etc. plus skimming the water, but the drawback is the little weeds that like to catch the brake lines. How is the field that you fly at for Spectra-eating weeds?
sailor99
Oh damn! I a sooo jealous having seen that picture. What a flying site. And you are right about flying to music. Often enjoy popping the ipod on while flying.
steveb
^the park that I often fly at is Piper's Lagoon, a rather oddly-shaped isthmus with a narrow, long straight peninsula that is good for flying at low tide and a SE breeze and a large rocky hill at the other end that curves into a hook with a nice flat field, just right for a Rev. This photo was taken from the hill, looking at the SE beach as the tide is receeding. It gets sandy once the tide is fully out. The other pic was taken from the end of the hook, off screen to the right.
Baloo
Looks like a lot of wood around the beach. Is that as a result of loging operations?? Looks a neat place to fly anyway.
Choccy
And you are right about flying to music. Often enjoy popping the ipod on while flying. I took the ipod out the other evening, but wind too low to fly Beeee... so listened and flew "Bai" instead Had a rare opportunity to fly today. Didn't take the ipod, thinking it would be quiet. Ended up hearing 2 young lads cursing each other and the wind and the length of their lines, struggling with a small foil. HaHaHa: they claimed our type of kites were easier because they have "4 strings" not 2 like theirs! We just flew around painting the skies with colour. I attempted my first dive-stop today. Gotta say my style is sooooo non-aggressive, pretty funny for the dive-stops but managed without crashing
steveb
Looks like a lot of wood around the beach. Is that as a result of loging operations??Looks a neat place to fly anyway. Yes, there is a lot of driftwood along the high tide line. Some is from forestry and logs escaping from booms, but quite a bit is from wind storms too. We had some brutal ones last Winter. A 600 year old tree down the road that had withstood every storm since before Columbus sailed fell last year. It does make for challenging flying when the tide is up, but it's also very good practise for depth perception when attempting to tip stand on a stump. A wise kiter once told me: "Too much scenery makes for challenging kite flying."
Baloo
Looks real good to me. Thanks for that last picture. Shows the site real well. Shame about that old tree. Still all things come to an end sometime. Those log booms must be a sight when they float past. do folks still have to ride them and are here still log rolling contests? I had a frutrating Day the other Day. Sort of not enough wind to fly a Rev properly (for my skill level anyway) and too much for the Bai. Choccy
"Bluey" has now progressed from crawling, to walking, even some bouncing... might get him to trot next (if there is enough room) I do hope he doesn't get the "terrible-twos" and starts getting stroppy and stampy on his sybling

Thanks for sharing. That is the dream, to beable to fly smoothly in all directions and having the cuteness factor thrown in Sadly we don't get down to a beach nearly often enough to try that sort of thing out. Lucky you..... and SteveB you've got a great flying site too.

Simon
Sailor, it snot Hugh Pew, its Pew, Pew etc. PS why is it only the on eguy with a beard gets his full name ????? You forgot "Hugh, Pew, Barny McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grub".And I remembered the dance it was I was trying to think of - Doin' the locamotion. And here is the "fabulous Kylie" doing her re-mix of the original, complete with the original hand motions once or twice. watch out for "You got'a swing your hands now" if you want to know how to make your kite "Do the locomotion". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EevbQoXzGgA...feature=related

sailor99
Your Kidding! I have spent the last (ahum) 21 (ahum) years thinking it was HP not PP. That's my childhood totally destroyed - I though hugh and pew were lovers not brothers! And I hear Barny managed to negotiate full credit for himself because he is a so much better actor than the rest. I mean, haven't you seen him on screen - he smolders. The man's a diva! You can make it hop on one wing and then the other, shuffle side-ways, take a few steps forward... whatever strikes your fancy. OMG! It is totally exhausting flying to music. We popped on "At the River" Groove Armada on our ipods yesterday (after 3 hours of flying and practice), thinking this track would be nice and mellow with its slow beat. (The Flying Squad like to use his when they have their mega team flying). It was exhilarating but totally shattering. Mind you the wind was blowing 15 mph gusting to 25 mph and we had not had a proper break in the flying first. Too much fun. This hobby is getting us soooo fit! The Shuffles, walking, fluttering and bouncing are hilarious to do too.

BY the time you done flying, you can almost eat a big pizza for sure. Any pictures of your divestop flying ?? Cheers,

Cheers, Hi Chris, Hehehe no pizza this time, just off to the pub for a small real ale and snacks in the late afternoon and to thaw out. Then home for some Thai food (yum). No photos of the dive stop sorry: more of a glide stop for me Hope you get some fun flying in soon again.
sailor99
Doing the locomotion yesterday morning, I heard a little voice behind me "Mummy. Look! That kite's walking!". Excellent.
Choccy
Doing the locomotion yesterday morning.... Look! That kite's walking!". Sweet. Were you flying anywhere nice? We had a sheep interested in our hover which was cute but there was an amazing moment when we were swooping backwards and forwards together and a silver glistening streak of a gaggle of geese (?) in V formation flew overhead between the kites. Obviously they were miles away. So no animals were harmed in our flying. It was one of those awesome moments never to be repeated.
