Jonesey
I wonder where all these 'chips' came from. They sell chip's as well as ice creams!... well that's me sold see you all there... Oh and thanks Simon, Harrier and Groz .... think I now have a much better idea of what to expect... looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing some incredible flying.... The Kite Society
People, us poor organisers here. For Portsmouth - basically the Saturday BBQ is open to all kitefliers but on a ticket basis only - we allocate tickets to the guests first and what ever is left (and it is normally in the region of 50) is on a first come, first serve basis. Tickets are given out during Saturday at the PA caravan - we just need to know you are kite fliers! The food is quite good really with only the occasional 'late' burgers burnt! There are salads, bread, cheese and dessert. In recognition of the numbers anticipated - we have doubled the size of the marquee. These are free and if you are lucky include a drink (BYO is better). The onsite bar 'may' be open but we do not control this. There is an off-licence within 150 m of the site. If you follow the Simon route - go somewhere else first - then you are more than welcome to come back for the auction which should kick off about 8:30pm. Jon and Gill (we BOTH organise it)
Stone in Shoe Bob
Jon and Gill (we BOTH organise it) And an excellent job you do too. Portsmouth 2007 was my first sleep-over festival. I went as a guest of one of the invited teams and although I was really looking forward to it I had a little niggling worry that I might have been all kited out by the end of the weekend, not a bit of it, I had a great time and whilst I am in no great hurry to wish this summer away I am really looking forward to Portsmouth 2008. Thanks for all your efforts Guys, (in a transatlantic unisex sort of a way)

Jon and Gill (we BOTH organise it) Ok,thanks for clearing that up,i think. Ians question was a valid one i think from the responce its had and i bet for every post agreeing on here thers another twenty that havent posted and wont ,but thought along the same lines.Choccy Td it up nice i thought.Very diplomatc. With that in mind,,,,, May it be a good idea perhaps to reserve some BBQ tickets or get an,, IM IN,,. Myself and Dave Bs family[8 in total], along with no doubt MANY others have planned for sometime to do Portsmouth and BRISTOL,I think the,, are we fliers bit is a safe bet.I would hate to miss the chance of having some BBQ time with some guys ive wanted to share a beer with again since we flew at Dunstable and see JBs crew,Rev crew, and the guys off here. The lists endless, so i can appreciate the task.Which makes an,,IM IN,,a good idea.I would have thought.I would imagine from the Marque exspansion you have had a rough idea anyway of numbers. Dave looks great in a Chefs uniform[or less] and can spin more burgers than a rap DJ on speed spins records. We would only be to glad to help with some kinda food contribution as i bet others would to help get into the spirit.I work for a large food/catering company and will bring something[regional to us] along to help fill a corner. Thanks Jon & Gill for clearing the PORTSMOUTH side of things up.If im over stepping the mark with the above in anyway, its not intentional, but dont want to miss a minute of either event, any of us. Felix
People, us poor organisers here.<snip> Jon and Gill (we BOTH organise it) Hear Hear! I would like to 'chip' in here and remind everyone that The Revolution 'organisers' are actually the Teams and Individuals in this thread. The focus so far has been on the 'flying bit' and quite rightly so. That The Revolution Company and The Decorators may be able to 'host' a bit of a party on the Friday evening at Bristol is 'separate' from the regular festival arrangements. At this stage there is no confirmed funding but in order to take it further we need to know if everyone is up for it. That is what I asked. I then asked specifically about the teams. I have had and seen some responses! Thank you. Felix
big bri
OK, so I have now basically got confirmation that The Decorators, Iquad and The Flying Squad will be at Portsmouth 2008.Some of the Decs are planning to 'be available' between the Portsmouth and Bristol events with a mind to maybe travel to Bristol and using it as a base to go out and fly (Weston-Super-Mare, The Downs?) and do any PR stuff that is needed. We might even throw a bit of a party somehow <grins> What we need to do now is gauge the level of interest! Avril Baker and Martin Lester have suggested that an additional arena would be made available for the Revolution Fliers! We would be able to 'fly all day' as well as doing specific arena presentations! I think this may be the one Felix.Cant find the one that says the drinks are on You though. BRIAN...gerin giddy or it. Hello Jon and Gill, Thank you, that is the nugget of information we've been waiting for. It's never been about the food or drink.... more about the social side. We've always gone to Gunwharf quays afterwards to dine, then on our return we've never found any night fliers. We must have walked past the marquee not realising the social event was going on inside. Not very rowdy are you *giggle* cheers,

Felix
Quite! I am in the middle of reviewing the whole thread just to make sure that there were no glaring examples of any tendency towards exclusivity. <grins> Oh (expletive deleted) I missed this.... "And don't forget the birthday cake on Saturday night, courtesy of Drachen! " Well... I wonder if the Revolution 'celebration' should be 'imposed' on the regular festival or should we be behind 'closed' doors? <grins> Please let me know your thoughts. Felix
At Bristol, the Saturday night party is open to all Festival guests and flyers - the on-site bar is open and we have the general auction (raises money for the Festival), followed by night flying and fireworks. The on-site meal is by ticket (usually £10), which can be purchased on the day or reserved in advance. We are hoping to provide a meal ticket to all registered Rev flyers, but that depends on funding/sponsorship (as do most things in Festival-land)! We are also planning to have a Friday night 'Rev only' auction that will be open to all - we're just waiting for the hotel to confirm the details. Hope that helps! We'll be updating the Rev pages of the Festival website (www.kite-festival.org.uk) with info, and will add anything relevant to the forum as well. But if you have any questions/concerns, feel free to drop us an email on [email protected]. Cheers, Lynn Ah, there is the information that someone was looking for! Thanks Lynn. As plans have moved on it looks like the Friday event will not be at Redwood Lodge but close to where the majority of the Rev Team fliers are staying. There is a questions about whether the auction should be separate from the main festival auction. I think that the auction should be a 'combined' one on Saturday night. Thoughts please from the forum! Thanks Felix
Felix
"<Revolution Kite Project Portsmouth/Bristol 2008 20th Anniversary Event'As experienced' Kitefliers 'we' are familiar with the Rokakku Battles at UK Kite Festivals inspired by Martin Lester using modern sails and spars. These spectacles may currently be the epitome of mass ascension with contemporary kites. Seeing 20 or more kites ascending together is without doubt, 'an inspiration'. However, over the last 20 years a new possibility has arisen for a large number of kitefliers to launch their kites and make a 'presentation in the sky'. Using the latest developments from Revolution Kites '...' we are planning for between 40 and 60 fliers to launch their kites in a three dimensional formation and 'perform an organised routine'. '...' Whereas the Rokkaku Battle is one where the last remaining kite is the winner the Revolution kites offer the opportunity to the fliers to co-operate and invent 'as they go' with everyone sharing the prize. A number of extremely experienced teams are preparing for the Portsmouth and Bristol events and will be co-opting individual fliers as well. Both festivals have made provision for dedicated flying areas to be made available for the teams to prepare for the spectacle. This will also provide the spectators with the opportunity to 'witness the development of the project' throughout the day at both festivals.>" File updated 05/03/2008 Has anyone got any further thoughts about this draft? Thanks Felix Please could all the teams that are arriving from abroad please let 'the organisers' of the events know their arrival times if they have not done so already. I know that arrangements are in hand for iQuad. It would be good to know that the European teams are all set! Thanks Felix
Felix
I wonder where all these 'chips' came from. If anyone has a problem please PM me. I will be on Blackheath in the morning in case anyone would like to get further 'clue'.Thanks Felix Oh well, no PMs so obviously everyone is 'happy' with the arrangements as they stand. On Blackheath today I flew a vented Rev 1 which was in the bag. I do not remember flying it before. It has some structural problems potentially but there appears to be kevlar reinforcements at the potential weak points. Has anyone else flown this version? I do not remember seeing it as a 'production' kite. Felix
Felix
Hmm All quiet at the moment...However I do need a heads-up regarding Friday night at Bristol. Please could everyone re-confirm their availability so that plans can be finalised. Thanks Felix I am re-posting this message with particular emphasis on 'everyone'. It appears that the term has been misunderstood. It applies to the readers of this forum many of whom will obviously not be able to be at the event at Bristol. It would be 'very' helpful if those that are available could make themselves known. We do know broadly about the teams and the field crew but I need to know if you will all be able to join in at an event on Friday evening. There is also a question of 'registration' in respect of the mega fly. Please could those fliers who have not committed as individuals for the 'mega team routine' please let us know how they would expect to be recognised and included in the event on a practical level. Thanks Felix

Jonesey I am asking those fliers who have not said that they would participate with the teams. It may be a very 'dead horse' but that is actually the question I am asking. I do not have time or the inclination to 'qualify' fliers. It is up to them to identify themselves and work out how they can demonstrate capability. Go figure, as they say! Actually, you may recall that I have indicated that I will be on Blackheath on Sundays at 11:00am in the interim. Felix
Just the Friday evening it is for me then.. thanks Go on, I'm sure you could do it... We have take almost complete beginners into the Decs and had the relatively up-to-speed in a very short time. As I have indicated, the invitation is there for those who are prepared to take it. That reminds me... having flown the Shockwave for the first time in weeks today, I am looking for anyone else who is comfortable with the idea of team flying the speed series and has the kit! Thanks Felix

Jonesey
Is that a 'wind up'?Felix AAAARRGHHHH ... Now I'm getting really confused???? I am just trying to do the right thing here so someone else decide! Ref speed series.... spent a lot of time on my vented SS yesterday ... silky smooth in pumping breeze so would like to play some team games with that ..... flew my shockwave today in an average of 25knots and found it sooo much more of a handful .... but was on standard handles which I find too 'aggressive' .... Mind you was also flying my progressive stack and dog staking my vented B so my arms are much longer then normal and my head is now wired backwards! With respect to the speed series, are you able to execute a 90 degree, 180 degree, 360 degree wing tip turn, forward and reverse, and absolute Stop? Slow Bicycle with ground touch at every rotation, Flick Flacks at any orientation... Slow Mo everywhere? What else? Felix
