RAWVEEDA
Antman & Alden, Today I was flying at Liberty State Park with Rich. The winds picked up & I decided for a lark to throw my SLE in my 1.5. Rich decided to REMOVE THE STICKS (aka training wheels or sissy sticks) & let me tell you...He flew that REV perfectly! We may all give him crap about them BUT I will say not only did he hold his own (kite ability not perv thoughts) but strangers came up to us to ask if we competed. It was a fantastic day at Liberty. I have not had that much fun in a long time...... Rich & myself will be at Liberty tomorrow (Sunday, October 12th) to show our support for the One Sky One World Kite Fly. I believe Rc_dude & Love2fly are coming too. We will be at the park by 1pm-ish. Anyone else please come out and fly. Who knows if the winds are as good as they were today maybe Rich will go stickless again.

As I said to you today, Steve, the only things the sticks do is balance the kite for some tricks and makes it easier to "park" the kite without using the stake. I honestly don't think it reflects on flying ability. As a matter of fact, with the older, heavier stick design, you actually need a bit more wind than without. As newer lighter designs have developed, you almost can't feel the weight difference. I underline almost as, of course, there is some additional weight. I am glad that you let everyone know that he really can fly those babies!

Why people call them training wheels are beyond me as you say they are great for parking and allot of fun for floating, some 3d tricks are easier but like you said he flew just as well with or without them. Another great thing about them is they minimize the walk of shame because they do make recovery easier. I don't care who you are and how well you fly the walk of shame applies to all of us at some point. Dammit I started ranting luckily I caught myself Carry On. rcom714
First off, Steve and I had a great day. Light wind to start, absolutely still for approx 90 mins and then a 180 degree shift and all of a sudden we had easily 14 from the south. Amazing! Steve says he's going old school and putting in his SLE (more on that later). My old 1.5 has similar colors to the 1.5 Steve was flying and since the sticks bridle was already off I put that one out. What a great time we had!!!!!!! You guys all lovingly bust on me bout flying with sticks, etc. and I never retort other than to say....have a nice walk or did you remember a spike?, I can lend you one. When I picked up Revs in Newport way back when, everyone flew with sticks and some still do. Thanks for the support Fortflyer, New England boy that you are! To me the only walk of shame is the one when you have to leave the field while a good wind is still blowing and everyone else is still up flying. Now THAT's a shame!!!! Flying with sticks in lighter winds teaches discipline and finesse as it definitely adds a bit more weight to the kite requiring a bit more effort in overall control. Response wise, a kite with sticks does not bowtie in higher winds nor does it tip wrap at the bottom as easily. Are the sticks needed? Hell no! Are they fun to fly with? Hell yeah! Do I care about being busted on? Hell no, just expect a little fun time ribbing back. Alden, just for you when we get to the Wood, I'll fly sticks free. Wouldn't want you getting twitchy on the right side of your figure 8's. To Ant, we'll just continue to laugh about the virtues of 119's and to Brad....what can I say? There is just so much material!!! Oh yeah, back to Steve's flying with an SLE.....don't remember the last time I flew with an SLE but man o man the kite gets real stiff. No flex at all. Talk about flat axels! Wow! Anyway, we had a great day. Hopefully today will be similar. Now, GO FLY A KITE!!!!!!

Put up a 1.5 with 2 wraps, 25' x 50# LPG and did a bunch of 360s, etc. I'm too old for that running crap so I put it down. Steve showed up and so did the breeze. Big shift and easily 15. Right quick we were on 120s. Then Sammy showed up, then Al (new to Revs), then Laura and her niece. A great day. Ant, you were missed!!!! Tips down or inverted. Kite sits more stable inverted though.
AldenMiller
I don't need a warning about Rich. In truth I think Rich is a talented flier (don't tell him I said so though). Together we flew some very nice formations last time we flew together. Now, will that stop me from busting on him? No way! I did share with him my secret about Antman so I actually think that Antman will be the target of abuse (again). I'm looking forward to flying with everybody again in a couple weeks. -Alden

Good stuff, guys... too bad I couldn't get my camera out fast enough....that was award winning material . Thanks.
