It stems from having long hair, which is a bit of a pita on a windy day. Now Ive just bought a few hair bobbles to keep it under control. Ive been so ashamed of my guilty secret. I really dislike how I look with a braid, but wind can really damage long hair. :/ Unfortunately a braid is the only solution. I skydive a lot too and my hair is ALWAYS braided. I wish I were more talented becuase I'd do a french briad with it or something, but ususually it's just a pony tail and then that's braided. Getting off the hair topic, I'm a little affriad of it being TOO windy to fly my B series Rev. I know you can double up on the 3-wrap and 3-wrap, but what are some of the stongest winds wome of you guys have flown in? I only have one Rev, so I don't really want to stretch the said. Now that fall and winter are coming, the winds will start picking up and though I'm excited, I just want to know the limit of my kites. awindofchange Posted October 16, 2007 Report Share Posted October 16, 2007 I use to curse the wind until I found kites. Now I am constantly searching for it like a junkie. I do a lot of power kite flying and buggying and after learning just how much power can be generated by the wind, I do get a little concerned when the wind does peak over 25-35 mph. My searching for the wind starts to turn more towards "Um..oh oh....hope everything is secured down". I see people at the soccer games setting up those awnings and tossing the ground stakes (if you can call them that) to the side. I look behind them and see families sitting on the grass totally unaware that if there is a gust, that metal awning is going to be right in their lap. My friend who also powerkites was at work watching a newly hired construction crew start to fabricate a "temporary wall & awning" for an expansion that was going to be built. He told them that the forecast was for stronger winds in the afternoon (25+ish gusts) and that they better secure their temp building better....he was chuckled at and told they were professionals. He works at a car dealership and needless to say, the construction company ended up paying for about 25 cars that were damaged when a gust hit their project and sent it hurling into the back lot. My friend just shook his head and walked away with a small smile. I guess it isn't a phobia....more of an understanding. Anyways, bring it on! I want to play! Then when you can fly there is no wind at all. Looking forward to my holliday. going to the coast, hopefully catch some good clear wind there. I dont braid mine, i put it in a pony tail then turn it over and grip it with a scrunchie, sort of bun stylie! Serious nanny look! Off your face, no dangly bits and mega easy! Ive also got a stupidly light car, mx 5 (miata for our american friends} the front of which dances all over the road in high winds, so ive always been a bit against wind............................................................ till i found the rev! After seeing the flying at Blackheath that Chris (Baloo) mentioned I think the limit with B Series vented is more at the other end of the lines, its more what you can take rather than what the kite will put up with, it need some serious stamina to fly in strong winds for any length of time. During the first part of the vid Chris mentioned wind speed is 30-35mph according to a Kaindl Windtronic 2. http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=...626071163223467 . KiteLife Posted October 16, 2007 Report Share Posted October 16, 2007 For reference, that video was shot during sustained 35 mph winds, frequently gusting into the 40's and 50's. Kite is a B-Series Vented, with 4 wrap frame and an added 4 wrap leading edge, both in the 1/4" internal diameter (not SLE). 150 lb LaserPro lines, on the standard 13" handles that come with the SLE or B-Series. All I know is it was difficult to stand up in, even without having to hang onto a kite. A day I will allways remember, besides meeting you and your friends.
