Yes, it was a very nice day at Berkeley. Many big kites in the sky all day. Lots of great demos, Airzone, Team Too Much Fun, two Rev mega flys. One early afternoon and one at the closing of the day. Both lots of fun.

I even gave a couple of lessons on the Rev field myself.

Lynn and I had a fun day. Back again tomorrow.

Another great day at Berkeley. Weather and wind were better than yesterday. Lynn and I were playing in the sky when Ben came over and we did threes for a while. Then John B played with us for a while. During the setup up of the giant octopus, we went out on the field with Too Much Fun and we did "fives" until they were ready to launch the big octopus.

Susan asked Lynn and I to do a demo. Having left music in the truck, and they wanted us now, we did a "Mystery Ballet". Can't begin to tell you what song it was, but we sure had fun.

To close out the festival, they called for a Rev Mega Fly. There was Lynn and I, John B, Mark and Jeanette Lummas, Ron Despojado, Ben, and I think Joje Davis was the eighth. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I'm having a senior moment.

Thanks to Tom, Susan and all of the organizers and volunteers who made this such a fun event. The new announcer, Don King, did a beautiful job.

All in all it was a really nice weekend. On to WSIKF........

You are very welcome, John. It was fun to give that "Rev experience" to others.

Just a note:

I had two "students" who were able to fly on their very first launch. The young man launched, held the kite steady upright for a bit, then proceeded to fly slow figure eights, stop and move the kite around the sky at will, then made a soft, upright landing. (kinda ticks on old guy off just a little :blushing: don't cha know?) Then his lady, who had been paying close attention to the lesson, did about the same thing. Neither had ever flown a sport kite before.

I think I was having as much fun as they were.

Congrats!!!

It's an amazing feeling to see a new pilot "get it" that quick.

It's your expertise that pushes a new pilot over the top like that.

Perhaps Laura, but these people were both sharp, very sharp.

Anyway, I had a ball.

There was one little girl who weighed in at, maybe, 50/60 pounds. She was only about 3 1/2 feet tall. Very determined to learn to fly a Rev. She and her mother and brothers were helping do something or another during the festival and so she was wearing an orange safety vest.

Well, the wind was blowing pretty good and we were using a vented "B". After a little ground school, I put the handles in her little hands and got behind her. I took her hands with the handles in mine and showed her the basics. When it was time for her to fly by herself, I had to let her hands go, and very quickly grab the back of that vest. This happened several times until she was able to fly a little and turn the kite back upright after crashing. I got to laughing so hard that tears were streaming from my eyes. If I had missed that vest, I'm sure she would have ended up nose first into the ground. I think I may have got hold of her long, black, flowing hair along with the vest a couple of times, but she never complained.

I still laugh about that one.

Hi Jim-

Who would have ever thought that flying a kite could be bring such laughter and joy? It might sound silly, but we are blessed to be out there flying these amazing kites and then to able to share it with so many others along the way.... wow!!

At the Newport Festival, a couple weeks ago, I was flying before most were at the field. This little girl, maybe two yrs. old was watching me fly. She was facing me, maybe five feet back of the sail. She waved at the kite and I waved back with the wing. You had to see the smile on her face. For the next five minutes (maybe more) she kept on waving to the kite and I'd wave the wing back at her. She couldn't get enough. Her father was holding her and just elated, himself! .... talk about making my day!!!!
