It was blowing 6 to 8 mph here this morning. I flew my full sail 1.5 with 3 wrap frame for a couple of hours. The wind came up into the mid teens so the 3 wrap frame went into the vented sail and I flew a couple more hours. The the wind died down to 2 to 4 mph. and I went home. Great start to a new year. :sign_kitelife:

The San Diego New Years Kite Festival was quite pleasant despite the fact the wind was very low most of the time.

The temperature must have gotten into the mid 70s but down to a chilling 62 when we left.

There were lots of REV fliers from all over.

Attached are 7 photos from today with more coming soon on my web site.

Treasure Island was great as usual. By the time the pictures Jay posted were taken most of "the other" kiters had gone home. It's funny how the Revers stay till the bitter end. Earlier in the day the sky was full of kites of all sizes. It was a bit cool for a Florida boy like myself. I don't even own a hooded sweatshirt but Jay provided home made hot meatball subs which hit the spot. (Thanks Jay!)It was nice to meet and fly with Bob, fly with Jay and Sherri again plus see the TI guys and gals again. The only reason those kites aren't folded in half is we were using the SLEs or as Jay calls them "fattys". I spent half my time running down the beach chasing my hat.

Here is a photo of the last moments of flying in San Diego on New Years Day. The fliers are Mike Kory, Jim Foster and Hector Herrera. Lynn the fourth flier, was already starting to pick up. Photo by Hector's daughter Michelle. 11 years old. It was posted on the IKE forum.

Here are a couple of me at the Cool Fool in Milwaukee. Photos taken by Jeff, IKE member.

He calculated the wind chill to be about 22 degrees below zero. I was pretty warm for the most part but when I removed my gloves to wind up my lines I was afraid my thumbs were going to break off.

Out of curiosity, how many layers did you have on???

Well, I had on two pair of wool socks, long underwear and Gortex ski pants, t-shirt, long underwear shirt, fleece jacket, Gortex ski jacket, fleece and Gortex hat, neoprene face mask, ski goggles, heavy ski gloves. Important not to have any exposed skin.

They say in Wisconsin we have 9 months of winter and 3 months of bad skiing.

I apologize for complaining about our weather which might have dipped into the 60s that day.
