pmdye
I'm looking to replace the SLE in my 1.5 to improve low-wind performance, and wondering, is there a difference between the EXP spars (which are unlabelled) and the standard 3-wrap 'Ultra-Light' spars? They look identical, bar the label. Phil

0 antman
fort is right the exp is a 3 wrap youll want to go with both 3 and 2 wrap in time so you can change up for diffrent winds i dont use any higher then that for my kites
0 Morrunya
The EXP and 3 wrap spars are the same. If you want lighter wind performance, I would go with 3 wrap or 2 wrap. I have used 4 wrap, but I would only use that when wind gets higher to replace the SLE.
0 Baloo
To be REALLY picky I think you will find the EXP spars are an inch longer than the 1.5 spars. Not sure about it though. Anyway it wont make any difference as the bungees will more than stretch to fit it.
0 Morrunya
Heck, those bungees will stretch to fit my rev indoor down spars!

(Just being silly). I bought 3 wraps for my SLE and I'm thrilled with them, so I know you will be pleased as well. I know alot of people on this forum don't like the SLE rods, but I've found them to be very useful in heavy winds.
0 johnnmitchell
I'm looking to replace the SLE in my 1.5 to improve low-wind performance, and wondering, is there a difference between the EXP spars (which are unlabelled) and the standard 3-wrap 'Ultra-Light' spars? They look identical, bar the label.Phil I would not look at it as replacement but as alternative spars. You will need the SLE spars under some strong wind conditions, so keep them. I would suggest purchasing three new spars for the standard 1/4" leading edge of the same type (3-wrap 'Ultra-Light' spars), same as your present down rods. Then you could think of spars for the lighter winds being the (2-wrap 'Professional Only') or the more expensive (Race Rods). The Race rod is about the weight of the (2-wrap 'Professional Only') and the stiffness of the (3-wrap 'Ultra-Light' spars). I found that they make the REV slightly more sensitive and radical. Are they Race Rods as robust as the other rods. I really don't know as I have not broken a Race rod. I do know that the other two rods are quite tough for their respective wind conditions. It would be nice to say this about the P series of another manufacturer, but I can't. I have broken too many P series rods in the leading edge, thus you won't find them anymore on my REVs or in my kite bag.
