Rev Supersonic

Wiggy

Question

I bought a Supersonic a few years back and have not been able to sucessfully fly the damn thing! I regularly fly a Rev 1.0 and a Rev 2.0 with no problems.

A few question you guys might be able to answer:

The "vertical" spars - Are they supposed to be behind the sail or in front? The kite has been built so the attachment points on the leading edge naturally position themselves on the front of the kite. Twisting them to run the spars down the back seems to put excessive and unequal strain on the bungee cords. This also pulls on the top bridle.

Are the top & bottom flying lines meant to be the same length?

How tight should the "sail" be? Mine is as tight as a drum skin!

The spars should be behind. You have to twist the top connectors round behind the leading edge, and yes this does pull the bridle round a bit. The sail should then be pretty tight. So that sounds OK too.

It is exceptionally important to have the flying lines the same length, and when you are starting make sure they are all untangled.

And dont forget a SuperSonic is just that, FAST.

First time I put mine up I flew it straight into a tree, managed to fly it out again though.

Seems like you are putting it together right. Just need to get the right wind for it. They pull hard considering the sail area too.

Same as with all kites, practice practice practice. Took me a while to get used to the difference.

As Sailor says flying with other Rev fliers is often the best help there is.

Thanks Guys.

I've spent the morning re-tying the bungees and now have a sensible looking kite.

My line lengths are all 100% equal.

I've been flying Revs for 10+ years and have never got the hang of this one!

Just need a gentle breeze and I'll be away!

The Speed Series Revs are quite different from the Rev 1, 1.5 & II.

They pull harder and are fast!

The leading edge should have a curve in it caused by the bungie tension.

Some of the larger Speed Series do well in lighter winds, but the SuperSonic is best flown in medium to stronger winds.

It is not strange to be able to fly the rev I and rev II and not the SS because the SS is so freakin' fast, it's very easy to lose control. In your ten years of flying how far do you think you have come, experience wise? Novice, experienced, or master. After plenty of practice with your other two revs, you should be able to fly the SS with not to many problems?

rev 1.0 and 2.0??? what the heck are tohse?? ha ha ha as for your kite it is a blast to fly in a wind range of 8 to 10 i have both the ss and ss vented they are great kites to fly .. and your verticals go to the back of the kite .. its a doosey to learn at first but once you get it its a real crowd pleaser..
