Super Sixteen

Three more elements have now been added in the section 7-Ball. More later today as time permits.

Thanks John for all your efforts.

Please see the rough sketch attached. I'm thinking of taking apart the square as well but mindful of the appropriate groupings. How about the four kites at each corner rotate out around the corner point to four diagonal lines. I wonder if it would be possible to do four 'pinwheels' at that point?

No problem with this one, at least for the animation.

I can do the big pin wheel. From the big pinwheel I could create 4 mini pin wheels pivoting around the center of each group of four.

From the two horizontal lines I could create a different version of 4 mini pinwheels.

Ah ha! And from the 4 mini pinwheels how about a transition to diamonds or squares. Again the key thing will to be identify the appropriate groupings.

I like it!!!!

I have now entered your ideas into my table of shapes and moves.

Next what I have on my agenda will be to create all the static shapes which will match to the table I am creating.

From these shapes I will list what is reasonable to transit/morph to and return. It is starting to get quite large.

Then I will go back to the animations.

Starting from the tight square moving to the diamond with the axis being the corners of the original square offers the possibility of repeating the transition round the tips of the diamond back to an expanded square and thereafter a further expanded diamond. This would be a stepped burst with clearly recognisable steps. Doing a 180 at the outer point and stepping back in could be interesting. <grins>

Edit Image added...

Edit Just think about doing something similar with concentric rings in the mega-team <grins>

Here is a bit of a challenge.

The single kite chooses a route through the grid. The simple way back home is to follow the same route back but it would, I think, also be possible to split the kites as drawn to allow a straight line back to the starting position for the meandering kite! <grins>

All you need to do is to get each one to move over individually in a similar fashion.

1. Col 4 Row 3

2. Col 4 Row 2

3. Col 4 Row 4

4. Col 4 Row 1

5-8. Col 3

9-12. Col. 2

13-16. Col. 1

Then hope you don't have any tangles.

Of course, it is not too complicated really. How about getting the right or left hand side column to weave in parallel through the other kites which then split to allow a direct return?

Edit... Better still, would it be possible to do a 'parallel benefit'...?

I think it will be a few weeks before I get these drawings of the last week.

At present I am changing the Web Site "again".

First comes the Basic Shape Categories.

I am planning the next level from each will be the shapes related to that category.

Then the next level should be the maneuvers(transits) between the various shapes.

Hopefully the next category will be connecting those maneuvers in a way that routine can be created, displayed and possibly downloaded.

There really is no rush. Sometimes ideas need a bit of space to evolve.

I think that the way that your site is developing is helping to focus attention on the requirements of developing a Super Sixteen routine <grins>

The first stage of "A - Ball" will be there very shortly.

Felix,

Parts:

B - Horizontal Lines

C - 4 Columns

D - 4 Blocks

E - Squares

have been added.

Could you look at the text for each figure and suggest better fitting text?

I will be adding some more parts, probably not all, in the next hours.

John,

Looks fine to me but maybe Square should be singular for the four per side one? (as opposed to 4 Squares)

Oh!! and Horizontal Line (16 Kites) <grins>

What I meant was the descriptor text right of each figure such as figure CB.

Oops, just lost a draft posting. You have included Zig Zags in horizontal lines which is OK by me for the time being.

I just extrapolated from what you had drawn back to the 16 grid and drew the attached image which requires a small shuffle to achieve the parallel lines.

I have not followed this through yet but I was aware that the parallel diagonal separation had some potential <grins>

I am open to any ideas!

I was not sure where to place it myself.

Would you like to place under some other basic category or even give it it's own basic category or a variation of that?

John,

Like I said, let's leave it there for the time being.

It may turn out to be a 'half step' which will be more fully defined further down the line...

I added in the first of the pinwheels under "I - Pinwheels"

Great! Thanks John...

I just realised that it may be possible to turn around from the final point of the last drawing I posted and 'thread back through' to the opposite side which is what, in essence you had suggested in a slightly different orientation.

My view is that, once some basics are defined, other, more radical possibilities will become apparent... <grins>

Let's hope that other 'potential' grid fliers will feel able to focus their attention and come up with further ideas.
