Indoor flown Outdoor

nckiter

Question

I added an indoor to my bag a while back for those 0 - 1 mph days.

I've only flown it once but noticed that with the no bridle factory set up there is an incredible amount of flexing going on in the frame. During the time I flew it the wind was 0-1 with an occasional gust to 2. The kite acted like it was spring loading itself then zooming off as it recoiled.

Since I do not plan on any true indoor flying I was thinking about adding a modified "standard rev bridle" to stiffen the frame slightly for those puffs of wind.

Has anyone done this or have any thoughts on it?

Well, the addition of a bridle wouldnt stiffen the frame at all. However, what you could do would be to get a leading edge set for a Rev 1 and cut it down to size. You'd need to replace the LE end caps to accomodate this and I'd recommend replacing all the existing fittings (ie, rod into rod connections) with "normal" rev end caps and bungie for some extra strength (which is what I've done with the one I'll use outside, my "usual" indoor remains stock)

David, perhaps stiffen may not be the proper term. It seems to me though that a bridle connecting to multiple points on the frame would spread the inputs to several locations as opposed to just one, there by reducing the flex of the frame. Am I looking at this wrong?

What are the flight characteristics of your frame modification?

Thanks for the input!

My original one came with those "normal" endcaps (one of the initial Indoors made I think). With respect to how it flies, its fine, it just bends a little less under load when I have the shortened Rev1 LE in place. I typically use this as my "street kite" on 10-20 foot lines.

I use the stock Indoor verticals but, with respect to the leading edge, I used a cut-down 4 wrap Rev1. I left the center rod intact and then hack some inches off of the other two rods. (and marked them with tape so I'd remember at a glance that its not normal length

David,

What do you think about using SkyShark P200 or P300 sticks instead of the Rev I rods for the LE?
