PAYG Sims in the US?

I'll be over in the US in a couple of weeks (with Revs ) - I was just wondering how easy it is to get a pay as you go SIM over there? I'l like to bring my phone but using it via my UK provider is just stupid expensive, and as I only want it for making local calls I figured I could just pick up a PAYG sim somewhere...

Anyone have experience of doing this? Any recomendations for providers?

I picked up a PAYG SIM quite often when I was over there. You need a triband phone though. I bought it in a phone store in albuerquequekue (or however one spells such a silly named place!), and of course their availability may be different in other states than NM.

It's easyto get a phone over here, you can go to any super store like WALMART and pick one up there. You guys have Walmarts over there? I think it's a good idea to do that rather than bring your own phone over and get charged like crazy for making calls on it. But you'll want to get a pre-paid phone because a pay-as-you-go phone will require that you have a contract and everything. I think you meant per-paid but it's just probobly just different lingo where you are. I hope this helped.

Yeah, over here, we call that a pre-paid phone because you pay for the phone and then you can buy minutes beofre you actually use them. Same oncept, just different term. Needless to say, they have them over here, so no worries.

There is a question of will your phone work on our network first off, as was said earlier make sure you have a tri-band phone.

As far as the Sims go AT&T formally Cingular has the best plan for that and probably the widest coverage.

You can check them or sprint and see what the coverage area is as to where your going that would make the choice easier.

ah yes, the midlands. A strange area of the country that took Norman names to heart and then mispelt them. Weirder things happen in the north where you might find Spittal-in-the-street or a village called Land of Nod. Mostly these are of Viking decent. Down in the south we have some corkers like Nether Wallop and my personal favorite Scratchy Bottom.

So you are right. Comparitively speaking Albakerkey is easy to spell and say.

Dont forget the Piddles, Wire Piddle, Upper Piddle, Lower Piddle etc. And the Lenches of course.

Could think of a few more if it was'nt so late. Suppose you have Worcester, Gloucester, Leominister.

Well, as far as sim cards go, you should be able to pick up a prepaid Tmobile sim before you leave, I knew alot of guys who flew in from the middle east. Tmobile doesn't have the best coverage, but for what you want they are the easiest to get a sim from, and then you can get a top off card from them.
