0 antman
depending on your local wind range rev offers a few frames .. race, 2,3,and 4 wraps.. race being the lighest and most flexible for extra sail inn the light stuff and the 4 wrap being the stiffest for the stronger winds.. the exp usually comes with a 3 wrap witch is good for moderate winds..all of the rods are 1/4 size witch is better then the big flag pole SLE that comes with the kite
0 RickKs
Thanks for the encouragement ,glad you like it Watty. It is a standard pattern with custom colors, the frame is a 3 wrap. Hey, I was thinking about something, but then I forgot...no just kidding ,but here's the thought (don't laff) if by changing the rods you can adapt to about any wind range , about the only other Rev you would need is a vented model, right? 0 kairusan
I've been playing with my new 1.5 (first quad line kite) quite a lot lately, as the winds at the field nearest my house have been excellent all week. Starting to get somewhat decent at it, but I still have a loooooooong way to go. And I like my SLE rod just fine for now, thankyouverymuch; I find that it's been lightweight enough to let me fly in the gentlest of breezes, but it has also held up beautifully in the face of 30mph gusts and repeated ground-smackings (the latter happening a tiny bit less often now, thank goodness). But I'm sure I'll eventually get some race rods and all that other fancy stuff just so I can see what everyone keeps talking about. One thing to watch out for that has plagued me: the thing can be hard on your thumbs, of all things, especially if the winds are high. Wear gloves, or be prepared for some pain as callouses develop. Have you tried applying a bit more break, tie a few knots about 1" apart in the leaders on the bottoms of your handles (obviously keeping both handles equal) then attach the break lines a few knots back it will make the kite a little more twitchy and it will take a little bit of getting used too but it will ease the strain on the thumbs and the wrists. Ya, I've gone ahead and added extra length to the top leaders and a series of knots to the bottom ones, and much prefer to fly with tons of brake setting except in the very lightest winds. But my thumbs still got quite a thrashing nonetheless on high wind days. I think it's not so much the brake settings as my having been in cushy deskbound jobs for so many years.
