Rev 1 Change from SLE to ?Wrap

Hi everyone...

a few words about me cause this is my first post.

I am from Kiel in the northern part of germany and bought my first Rev (L. Sedgwick SLE) a while ago.

I bought the SLE because I was a bit scared of braking something in the first "crashing" phase.

We also usually have stronger winds here.

But now I got some flying experience an would like to change to a lighter frame.

I am just a little unsure what to order.

As far as I discovered, I don't need to change the end caps and the only difference between the middle and the outer LE rods are the small connecting tubes.

Even the vertical rods are the same length as the single parts of the LE. (What a system!!!).

To have a full 4-Wrap frame I would only need 1 middle LE-rod and 2 outer rods (same as the verticals). Right?

The SLE got 4x verticals.

The next question is, what would be the best.

I like to fly the kite in really low winds but I am still not the best flyer.

A 2x frame might be too fragile for me. Maybe I should go for the 4x.

Which is actually the standard for the Rev 1 right?

Would it make sense to order a 4x and 2x LE at the same time and use the 2x together with the 4x verticals I already got?

Not sure what to do?

And the last thing I want to ask is if there are any Rev-flyers from germany in this forum.

Maybe we could meet one day.

I lived in the Munich area for many years but have since moved away from Germany.

There are a few REV fliers on this forum from Germany, however most are rather quiet.

More active on this forum are the European fliers from England, France and The Netherlands.

For the REV I there are quite a number of frame choices which are:

- 2 wrap .25 inch (Professional Only or 2 feather)

- 3 wrap .25 inch (Ultra Light or 3 feather) - rare

- 4 wrap .25 inch (Revolution Equipped or 4 feather)

- special order wraps .25inch ( 6, 8 or something else)

- 3 wrap .375 inch SLE - rare

- 4 wrap .375 inch SLE

- Race rods .25 inch - Black

- Race rods .25 inch - Green (Super tough)

- ZEN frame .25 inch

I have all the frames except the (3 wrap .375 inch SLE) and (Race rods .25 inch - Black).

It appears from the discussions I have seen here the Race Rods(black)is now the preferred frame.

I personally prefer the Race Rods(green).

My second preference since I don't have the (black race rods) is the (3 wrap .25 inch).

Then comes the ZEN frame.

It is likely that your kite dealer does not have all of these frames. Just tell them to order the frame for you. If they don't care to, there are several kite dealers on line that would be willing to fill your order and ship them to you.

Take a look at the REV 1.5. You might find it a bit more versatile then the REV I.

You sure it's an SLE? Rods are almost 1/2" round and only in the LE! Verticals should be 1/4" rods, maybe 4 wrap or 3 wrap! If the verticals and the LE are the same size (diameter), I'm guessing you have a set of 1/4" rods already!! Depending on age, they used to be equipped with 4 wrap rods! For light winds, 2 wrap or a race rod (black) set would do to lighten things up!! But beware gusty conditions!!! The size of the Rev1 puts a lot of stress on the rods in stronger winds!!

Quite often, as Mr. Mitchell stated, the dealers do not have a wide range of the Rev 1 shafts.

Direct shipping from here for a few kite shafts is quite expensive. Although not impossoble.

I am a little late and I guess that you already send the stuff to germany. But there might be another chance. I can wait till you have another order from germany

I would like to order a 1/4" 4 wrap leading edge and a complete race frame. All for a Rev I (Sedgwick).

Do I need any more parts to change from SLE to a lighter frame?

What will be the costs?

I like to fly the Rev in really low winds.

But living on the coast I need to be prepared for a little more wind. Thats why I decided to buy the race- and the 4w- frame. And I have the SLE as well then.

That might be a good package
