  1. I make leaders out of 80# black Dacron. I fold a long piece in half, thread a needle on one end, insert the needle about an inch past the fold/crease line, and fish the needle all the through to the cut end, leaving a 1" loop at the fold/crease end. Now you have a single length, with a clean loop at the top, to lark's head attach to the handle. Now just add your knots at whatever spacing interval you prefer. Some folks like 1/2", 3/4" or an inch apart.

  2. Yes Howard, there are mid vents of the SLE, but not available at every store! If I remember correctly, they are gotten through The Kite Connection and there might be others! He gets them in that Black Rainbow pattern, that's exclusive to his store! So you might have one!!! The SUL version of the SLE has been discontinued as a production model, but still is stocked as a left over! You can special order most any model in just about any kite style direct from the factory, if you have enough cash to make it happen! I believe I once saw an EXP vented!! I had deliberately left out the Pros, as it was a new flier asking and I didn't feel he needed to know that option yet!

Does that answer your dilemma?? ani_giveup.gif

Yes, you can special order the 1.5 model in SUL and the Mid Vent at The Kite Shoppe.

  3. Been thinking about you a lot since you left here Tuesday after WSIKF. Last night as I sat separating a big bowl of dried lavender buds I was thinking about 'my bud Ben' and wishing you well and hoping we'll have you with us at Seaside. Many many hugs to you, T wub.png

  4. Greetings, Well I may be a couple of years late on this reply, but heck, I'm a new member of this forum. Exile, if you are still around, I'm in Whitefish, MT and a new/ old rev owner and a new rev flyer. I've been flying 2 line kites for a long time, but usually only when I can find time to get to Lincoln City, OR, or to Long Beach, WA. In case you are unaware, Whitefish is the worst place in the world to live if you fly kites...no wind! Any way, I was lucky enough to meet a really cool young lady at this year's International Kite Festival in Long Beach who happens to be a major player at Revolution Kites by the name of Lolly. After being amazed by the old, and I do mean old Rev II kite I bought about 18 to 20 years ago that has never been flown, she helped me get into a 1.5 rev that is designed for very light wind areas. Guess what? It flies so beautifully even for me! Now I'm hooked on flying Revs!! If you are still around Exile, or if there are any other kite flyers, especially Rev flyers around either in Mt, Northern ID or the Spokane WA area, I would love to hear from you and maybe set up a time to go fly together. I think that would be fantastic!!! Rick (mtgrizzly52)

Yes! I remember you! Glad you found the forum and posted. Yes, lots of great people in the Rev family! Hope you can make it to the LC Fall Festival!

  5. Update on using bridle line for sleeving - unsuccessful! Used bridle line has been under enough stress that the weave is very tightened. After removing the core, I was unable to thread a wire through the center to pull the flight line through. Unused bridle line works great tho.

See me at WSIKF. I have wire for you that should work :)

  6. @watty - what size plastic plugs are you using in the handles?

ive tried a couple of different ones and have found that they pop out a fraction from the handle end, once installed....

    thanks

Hi! I see you are in Australia. I'm sorry to say that we know there is a difference in metric sizes and US sizes. :(

Here in the states, Watty uses the Blue sized plugs. I do not think there is a metric size that is the same. The next size, up or down, is either too small or too big.

  7. I am going to attempt making a set of lines and am trying to figure out where to find line sleeving. Ideally I would like to find some fun colors for the sleeving, but I can't seem to find anything other than black or white. I have been searching around for braided dacron, which seems to be what most lines are sleeved with. Am I looking for the wrong thing? Does anyone have any tips on where I might be able to find colored line sleeving? Thanks for the help!

    Just saw this!

Next time...when it's raining, snowing, sleeting, gusting to 60mph...we should all go in the condo and have hot chocolate and a mini sleeving clinic!

I'll show you next week when I see you :)

    T
