Rev II Corner at WSIKF?

Any interest in having a Rev II get-together at WSIKF?

Although the new B2s and intermediate models would be welcomed, it would be a blast to see how many of the single color Rev IIs could be assembled for a group photo.

I'll be there with two Rev IIs (and of course my 1.5s with 120' lines.)

My challenge - if you have a Rev II single color, bring it for a photo op. If you have a B2, bring it to make us all jealous. If you have a II in between, let's collect a historic perspective.

I'll check with my son to see if it's OK to bring his Rev2 up to WSIKF!!! He's got final say on it!! kid_devlish.gif Gonna fly them on 120'?? confused_1.gif

I think their size fits 80' lines better. I like 50 lb a bit over 90 lb - but it doesn't make much difference.

What ever you have, even if we only get a cluster hovering long enough to take pix. Then go from there whatever our equipment dictates and people want to do. :kid_content:

I think that this is a great idea but would want to introduce a word of caution. The 1.5 platform has served us extremely well in 'very recently' gaining the recognition of the concept of a Revolution Arena. It may be a bit soon to start introducing other tiers within the discipline but it must be the way to go eventually.

Let's get the Rev I's and II's ready, Supersonic, Shockwave etc. as well, but please take care not to dilute the current efforts in establishing the core practice.

Only my personal thoughts of course, as ever...

Felix - I thing you raise a valid point, and at the same time you bring up a wonderful opportunity. This may not be the intent of your post, but I think a festival with a dedicated rev arena is a great chance to have some mass ascensions of different variants on the Rev field for photo opportunities. While it's probably too late to organize any specific date / times at WSIKF, you just changed the composition of my bag for travel to Long Beach. I'll bring a complement of 1.5s, and at least one each of the Rev I, Rev II, and Shockwave. That will be my limit as I don't own any of the other variants (yet).

I'm close to pulling the trigger without even flying one first and I have already exchanged a couple email with Theresa so she knows what I am looking for in terms of colour. I just don't know for sure on a std or mid and I really do need to take one for a spin to see if it is something I must have. I am having such a good time with my 1.5s and now with a real chance of a flying partner here that is interested in team flying I'll be out a lot more with the 1.5. Can't help to think that at times I maybe want some speed just to let loose.

Stephen,

We know now that 'from experience' the Revolution fliers can tell which of the 1.5 series sails that they should be flying in a given wind speed or across variable conditions. This 'fine tuning' is relatively new. Standard, Mid Vent, Full Vent and spar changes are in the mix...

In the old days we flew Rev1's up to the point that we could not hang on any more and then flew 1.5's. Very occasionally we resorted to the 1.5 vented but as the kites that we had were not in JMH graphics we were reluctant to go there.

A long time ago we found out about the delights of Flying the Rev 2 slowly. It was in Damp on the Baltic coast of Germany, as I recall.

You will see comments about the speed of the Rev 2 and indeed the 'speed series'. It has been my interest to fly them slowly as well as quickly and that concept holds good for me across the kites in my bag currently.

Way to go... 'Still learning here' as opposed to 'knowing it all' <grins>

Best wishes

Felix

A Rev 2 group fly would add variety to the action. My guess is it wouldn't dilute the 1.5 movement's momentum and it might bring in additonal people that want a little more zip in their ity-do-da.

I like to fly the Rev 2 fast and slow, too. If the Rev 2 is too fast, add more brake by adjusting lines on the pigtails, switch to longer and/or heavier lines, or switch to vented Rev 2. The sail size is small enough that a longer/heavier line change has a significant affect on speed. As with the vented 1.5s VS full sail, a vented Rev 2 flies a lot smoother than its full sail version and removes the warp speed.

I'm fond of the 90' & 90# line for most Rev 2 flying. In upper winds using 50' lines, you have a nanosecond to decide what to do next unless you add a lot of brake. It can be flown slow if that is the goal, but I usually switch to the vented Rev 2 at that point, so that a gust or small bobble doesn't send it ballistic the wrong way.

A comparison of the Rev 2 and the B2 would help me decide if a B2 needs to go in the bag. A posting would be greatly appreciated.

Howard: Sorry to have missed an opportunity for a pic!! Left on Friday evening and the wind blew something terrible all day! Never put up the son's Rev2!! Sorry!! kid_cussing.gif

's OK, Wayne.

We got some videos of 6 on the ground - too windy to try much flying. I use video because I can extract the best stills using software and get a nice hi-def picture. I'll get some posted in the next few days.

My thanks to everyone who showed interest.

P.S. Someone left a set of short (Rev II style) handles in the area. They were turned into the WSIKF lost and found, and not claimed as of mid-Sunday.
