Informal Rev Clinic in Hillsboro, OR

Update from Hillsboro:

It looks like winds will be light and variable, although I have noticed that for the last few days the weather forecast and the actual weather have varied a lot. I want to reiterate something John said in an earlier message: if you can stay past 4 pm, the best winds may well be in the time frame 4 to 8 pm.

Remember your sun screen. It's going to be bright and hot.

If you have any lights for night flying, the wind might support us. I often fly at another site, about 10 minutes or so to the west, where it will be darker. The field could support a team of 4 at once, but probably no more at one time.

I am really looking forward to this.

And, I will probably be at the fairgrounds tonight, as the wind forecast looks good for the late afternoon and evening. So maybe I will see some of you there.

Chuck

FYI, my cell # is 503-890-0280... I'm not sure the exact location we'll be using within the fairground, just realized it's pretty big - feel free to call if you need some direction.

I hope to be there around 9:30-9:45. ;)

I will be there too :)

but it may be about 11:00 before I get there.

Chuck, I should have asked you this earlier! Which road is the best road to access where we will be?

Just across from the Airport? Where the entrance to the fairgrounds is? I know the sign says Washington County Fairgrounds. Is that the right place to enter?

Thanks!!

See you there!!

Heads up guys, we've made a last minute change... Headed to Sunset Beach (near Seaside OR) tomorrow, wind was really light and variable in Hillsboro today, forecast is worse tomorrow... Beach wind is in order... I'll send a PM to Cameron and MercFlyer too, just in case.

There is one main beach access, we typically make a right from that approach down the beach... Drive on beach, easy line of sight up and down... If you're able to make it but can't find it, head about 8 miles north of Seaside and ask any local, they'll know where it is.

Again, if you have any issue, call my cell at 503-890-0280 ;)

What a blast, I had a great time meeting and flying with everyone yesterday!:mf_party: I look forward to flying with everyone again. I had some good breakthroughs yesterday,:rev_clockwork: I was able to do the inverted float down from the top of the window to gain ground in light wind which led to a hugely improved inverted hover which has escaped me till then, I even flew up while inverted once for a couple feet.:ani_yahoo: I can't wait till I'm good enough to get in a group fly it looks like fun. Big thanks to JB for tuning my kite and showing me it really can fly.:sign_kitelife: Thanks to Katrina for the leader lines, now I have to knot them up.:D Exile also gets hella props for being so vigilant in his quest to keep people from driving and walking all over our kites and lines.:clap2::clap2::clap2: Amy and Conner, bummed I missed you guys but there is always next time.:bye1: Thanks also to Walt? for the sweet kite stake.(so bad with names I hope I got it right:pinch:)

:D I'm still smiling.:D

WHAT a fantastic weekend, I'm glad I dropped down to Oregon for the weekend While Saturday was a little less than even breezy, a Sunday at Seaside more than made up the difference with a truly spectacular day!

thanks everyone!

What a FANTASTIC weekend, especially yesterday at the beach (3-8 mph and sunny)! :)

Deepest thanks to Monkey, Wayne, Eli, Katrina, Brett, Bri, Chuck, Kevin, CJ, Amy, Wyatt, Scott, Cathy, Geezer, Theresa and of course TK for a wonderful two days.

Farthest traveled awards go to CJ (from Montana) and Monkey (Vancouver BC). :)

Special thanks again to Chuck for doing the legwork on our Hillsboro flying location, even if the wind did end up being really poor.

Such a wonderful group of people, and so much improvement by yesterday afternoon, it was a real pleasure to share the field with y'all.

What do you say, shall we do it again sometime? :)

That explains it.

Was gonna stop by and yak with ya on my lunch time on Sunday, but nobody was there.confused_1.gif

Just figured you went looking for a better spot.

Glad Sunset beach was better.

In case no one could tell, I had a great time with the people and the kites. The wind really does blow in Hillsboro sometimes, but nobody can predict when. (For instance, this evening was rather nice.)

Sunset Beach is so close, that I would be up for this sort of event every month or two. I know that means finding time among many other commitments, and time for CJ to drive from Montana (?), but I will certainly participate.

Thanks especially to John and TK for fitting this in two days before leaving for Singapore.

I like the impromptu thing... Works out really well for me with such a busy schedule, and it keeps it informal. :)

No replacement for the West Coast Rev Clinic (full curriculum), but awesome for the year in-between!

I'm up for keeping this going, and will definitely do a separate topic like this one when I've got another good weekend for it.

Love, hugs and good wind!
