Baloo
Hi folks, anyone (probably in the UK) have a SLE rod set being used as Tomatoe canes they might be happy to donate to a good cause. I want to try a stiffer rod set in the Bat kite that Derek made for me. I could go out and buy some P400 or similar, however if anyone has any redundant rods I would be greatful. Cheers, Chris. Jeepster
Hi folks, anyone (probably in the UK) have a SLE rod set being used as Tomatoe canes they might be happy to donate to a good cause. Hey Bear, it would probably take two sets of P400 rods to equal the stiffness of the SLE leading edge. Talking someone out of their redundant SLE rods is probably a better course of action. Cheers, Tom

Morrunya
If you use two 3-wrap or 4-wrap 1/4inch leading edges, it comes pretty close to an SLE. Something you may want to try if you can't find an SLE.
Baloo
Cheers Tom, that was what I was thinking. A bit of revers psycology going on there Gary? The rods I have at the moment are P200's. Good Idea Spence. Might see if there is some way of trying that. The Bat is quite different to a Rev though, has no leading edge pocket for the rods. Tey have to run along the middle of the kite.
wufer
Hello Chris Please remind us how long the rods need to be I have plenty f/g tube. First two pics below. These rods are well stiff innit Thy are 54 inch long and are as pic below.( the one on the left is EXP for comparison.) I have plenty outside and inside connectors too. Cant remember, but will SLE or these rods fit the the tunnels and the end caps, not sure I also have some f/g tube, same width as Exp(will fit into end caps) These are a lot lot stiffer than EXP. Pic above. L to R. SLE end caps/ SLE inside connectors/ outside connector/ 1/4" tube with connector and 14" tube without connector/ two 1/4" connectors. What do you think. Anything any good to you. Derek. Edited March 22, 2010 by wufer
Baloo
Cool, taaa daaaa, Wufer to the rescue again Ok so long story short, I have already managed to break the P200 rods you supplied with the "Bat". You suggested they might be a bit on the tin side. Was a fairly big gust that caught it though. I held a LE from a 1.5 up against it and it was a bit shorter but I can shorten the bungees. That was why I was asking about a SLE. I would have to alter the tunnels and connectors to suit. If you have some rods that are EXP size but stiffer that would be great. I will measure up the actual size if you dont mind? I was intending to try to get some P400, however thought I would see if anyone had stuff they wanted rid of B4 buying anything. wufer
Hello Chris  Just tell me how long it needs to be from tip to tip of the complete  l/e, and not just one rod and a can see what i can come up with. Got plenty 1/4" f/g rod. As you can see, the connectors go on the outside, but thy should go thou the tunnels, (at a push  ) Derek.
Baloo
Thanks, will measure them up. Just in case anyone is wondering what the heck I am on about. Wufer made me a kite shaped like the Bat sign in Batman, I have managed to break it.
wufer
Chris. It would help if i knew the measurement  from wing down spar to wing down spar (From the two spar crossover tunnels ) Derek.
Baloo
OK. Will take the measurements. Probably Friday.
Baloo
Hi Derek, done some measuring. From middle. 2.5" to first spar, the ones that do the "ears" 21.5" to the next spar, the one that is top nad bottom of "wings" 46" to outside. That would make it 5" between first spars. 43" between next spars. 92" across. Would be ideal if the new rods are same diameter as P200 but twice as strong. Hope the measrements make sense to you. wufer
Chris. I always think better of a morning: Hows about i send you. 2@ 31" 1@ 29" 2@ Ferruls Just checked and the 1@ 29" is [email protected] , so thats even better. Derek
Baloo
Sounds good to me Derek. The 3 spars you sent the kite with are 31" each. My idea would be to put the slightly shorter spar in the middle. With the 2 end spars, each with a Ferrule on so that I can feed them all in witohut problems. Just need to hope they will all fit through the existing tunnels. Thanks again for your help on this.
Baloo
Hey Derek, rods have arrived. They are well stiff innit. Will just need to shorten the bungees a little. Thank you SO much.
