johnnmitchell
I do think it is going to work reasonably well with staggered pilot columns on the ground grid. Let us see how things turn out with the Brits this coming weekend. I see a cat slowly peeking out of the ...

LS Kite Stakes
August is a ways off for me to be able to commit yet. Hopefully my $$$ situation will improve a bunch between now and then. I am on the "hoping to attend" list at this time.
bartman
Maybe a stupid questions, but is this an "official" Guinness record (if such a thing exists for a kite grid) or just an unofficial record for fun? Bart

Felix
Maybe a stupid questions, but is this an "official" Guinness record (if such a thing exists for a kite grid) or just an unofficial record for fun? Bart I hope it is not official! In 1993 I wrote to Revolution suggesting 10 x 10 formation of fliers on the ground. There were not many team fliers back then! In 2007 planning began for the 2008 events at Portsmouth and Bristol and I suggested that 'the grid' could be the practical way to get a large number of fliers in the air doing moves together. It took practical demonstrations with fliers to persuade them that the approach was viable. We know that with adequate communications it will be quite simple to have 4 sets of 5 x 5 (20 x 5) flying together and in parallel. 10 x 10 may take a bit longer to deliver. I hope that we can spend a short time this coming weekend at the NE England event evaluating the 10 deep team line. It may require a greater degree of precision than has been 'demonstrated' previously <grins> Felix
KiteLife
Maybe a stupid questions, but is this an "official" Guinness record (if such a thing exists for a kite grid) or just an unofficial record for fun? In order to be a Guinness record, we'd need to open a line of communication with Guinness, fill out forms, get witnesses, etc, etc, etc. Too much for me, I just want to fly. The record is official in our world, just not with an outside body like Guinness.
bartman
But if an attempt it made will it be an official attempt for the record books? I assume if it were then there must be some criteria to be met to get in the book. Bart

(Maybe another year) Given that the 48(- 1) succeeded at the first attempt, the track record looks good. (The 54 did not succeed due to low wind speed and a fatal shift in wind direction that started to affect one side of the field first and left the fliers there with nowhere to go!) Aiyana
Hi John! If there is any way for me to be there I will, and would love to be part of a world record attempt! cheers! Aiyana

Keep us posted, hope you can make it.

Lauranyyfan
Gotcha added Rich, I'll look for notes from your teamies. I'm cherry picking a few pilots for top 1 and 2 positions in columns, but I'll otherwise be stacking teammates together whenever possible. There will sometimes be situations where I'll need to take one out and assign them to a column in need of leadership. Working for balance however, and we can *always* move stuff around. Felix, cool about Ashley! Hey Babe- Still gotta figure things out; like where to stay!! I do plan on going for the week!! As soon as it's figured out, I'll let you know. Wouldn't want to miss this! KiteLife
List updated, please let me know if I've missed anyone. Also, two more things... 1. I'm not adding "maybes" to the list, so you'll need to re-post here once you've got confirmation on your side. 2. Bear in mind the NWSKL competitions scheduled for Sat/Sun (possibly Fri too)... With pilots 5 out for comps last year, we were missing exatly what we needed to break the record. I dig comps, it's all good... But fact of the matter, you'll miss out on most of the mega fly action if you're competing... I need to know this, all part of the planning. Windbag
John, definitely count me in for the mega, mega fly. I'll be there all week. Thanks for putting the Thursday, Friday, Saturday plan out there in advance. Last year I showed up around 11 am on Saturday hoping to fly in the afternoon & it was all over! I missed the big one. I did have fun flying with everyone several other days such as below. I sent an email with more details. Have fun, Ray.

I'm not adding "maybes" to the list, so you'll need to re-post here once you've got confirmation on your side. <snip> OK, Ashley has just confirmed that he is going into debt <grins> and so we will make the trip. (He will just have to get some work to pay off the debt...) We will arrive Saturday 14th 16:45 at Seatac and will stop locally overnight. Driving to Long Beach direct at c3-4-5:00am UK time just does not seem like a good idea. Arrive Long Beach Sunday 15th, leave Sunday 22nd for the 18:45 flight. KiteLife
Ha, that's THIRTY-THREE confirmed in the middle of February with six months to go before the event! I've also got six more almost assured people on my spreadsheet that are nearly guaranteed to make it, but haven't confirmed yet.
