KiteLife
Ladies and gentlemen, we are pleased to announce the third iteration of what is now an annual event in conjunction with the World Kite Museum in Long Beach, WA to be held this year on March 19th through the 21st. The West Coast Rev Clinic III! (3rd annual) If you are a RevGuild member, please look for discounted Clinic registration links in our club forum... $15 off individual registration, $25 off couple and parent/child fees... RevGuild membership is $35 per year, so just 2 or 3 clinics will more than cover the average Clinic registration fee, as well as provide a 15% discount at The Kite Shoppe. In addition to the regular 3-day Clinic content, we hope also to secure an indoor venue for Friday night, if so, this will only be available to paid Rev Clinic participants and instructors. Friday will be an "open" 1/2 day with no curriculum or classes, as we understand it's tough for anyone to get a full weekday free... It'll be casual, one-on-one for anyone who can make it, then the real fun and classwork will begin on Saturday morning. == The nearest hotel to the Rev Clinic: Edgewater Inn 409 Sid Snyder Dr SW - Long Beach, WA (360) 642-2311 / (800) 561-2456 Other nearby lodging: Our Place At The Beach ($54-$130), 800-538-5107 Rip Tide ($49-$99), 800-214-1379 Mermaid Inn Motel ($58-$128), 800-676-2601 Historic Sou'wester Lodge, Cabins ($59-$194), 360-642-2542 Rodeway Inn and Suites ($60-$135), 800-753-3750 Discovery Coast Cottage Inn ($45-$199), 877-642-2613 Cedars Ocean View Inn ($68-$279), 800-219-9833 == NOTE: One thing we'll be doing differently this year is dividing groups into NOVICE, INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED (based on a specified set of Rev skills) so that we can keep things moving along for everyone, no matter where you're coming from... dean750
I'll need to be added to the tentitive list. Depends on wether I'll have the earned leave to cover Friday and Monday. If so then I'll be in like flynn. I've got my fingers crossed, maybe if ya'all cross your fingers for me it'll be a lock. If I can go I'd be willing to help out where you think I could be a help JB. dean750
I should have a second full vent by March. So, even though I won't hit him up till I know I can cover my time off, put Chance my son on the tentative list too. Sure he wouldn't mind missing two days of school and the chance (no pun intended) to meet the man who set him up kiting. Hi'ya Terry, hope to see you soon. Chance is a real newbie. I'll do my best to bone him up for the clinic. But he is a teen and is really into girls at the moment. If he wasn't so damned responsible I'd be worried like a father with a daughter. (hey dad, we got two more to take care of) Hoping kiting will help him along with the teenaged mental health therepy all teens need. KiteLife
Just added a bit of info to the lead post as well: Friday will be an "open" 1/2 day with no curriculum or classes, as we understand it's tough for anyone to get a full weekday free... It'll be casual, one-on-one for anyone who can make it, then the real fun and classwork will begin on Saturday morning.

KiteLife
I've just added a poll to this thread, please vote ONLY if you're planning on attending (tentatively or otherwise - as a student or an instructor). Question in the poll, do you want to practice or learn the grid?
visual
Reservations have been made and we can't wait! Count Lori & I in
HedgeWarden
Tentative, John. But I'd be staying in Ocean Park - a bit anti-social but free for me. (I might be able to supply free RV park-like facilities to 1 or 2 RVs - that's Recreation Vehicles, not Revs)
kiter
John; please add Carol and Cass Pittman to the attendee list

KiteLife
I'd also like to add to this thread, if we turn out with a whole mess of intermediate and advanced pilots interested in grid flying, we'll definitely make sufficient time for it! Those of you who are still learning but have the basics of hover and flight will be able to try your hand at basic grid without fear of reproach, as the whole team environment is VERY forgiving, friendly and fun... Getting up in the air with a bunch of other folks will really increase your learning curve along with the overall fun level, trust us, we'll have fun and take care of everyone. Trick is, for those who are relatively capable, you'll probably learn everything more quickly doing basic team flying and grid exercises. Rest easy however, those who don't participate in team sessions will still walk away with plenty to chew on for their individual abilities. == For those who are just getting into this, don't worry, I'll personally work to make sure all attendees are given absolutely worthwhile coaching without pretense (as always). Remember, and clinic or schooling can only give what you take out of it... Please know, all the instructors are genuinely accessible and happy to assist at any level. == Attendees! I'm getting a good reading on the grid demand from our poll above, but... If you'd do me the favor, everyone please post back here again with the things you're specifically looking to learn at the clinic? Examples: From square 1 (including set up and introduction to how the kite really works) Hovering in all orientations Speed control Reverse flight Clockwork turns (in place) Bicycle rotations (in place) Slides (up/down/left/right) Tricks (axels, flic flacs and falling leaf) Basic team maneuvers Advanced team maneuvers Etc, etc, etc. With those who are working through the intermediate levels, please be as specific as you can because I'll be using everyone's feedback to create a schedule that accommodates as many as possible. My plan is to take a poll at Saturday's meet and greet as well, to cross-check the list I gather here, but it will help me a great deal to be prepared with some idea of what to expect. Golly, over 3 months to go and I'm already getting excited! <grin>
Morrunya
<snip> Golly, over 3 months to go and I'm already getting excited! <grin> I have to say that I have a very good feeling about this, and I think it will be even better than last year's because of the abundance of structure and organization. It's really turning into a great workshop. I am pleased ~Still working on some details before confirming my attendance, but I'm sure I'll be able to make it work. glider
<snip> Attendees! I'm getting a good reading on the grid demand from our poll above, but... If you'd do me the favor, everyone please post back here again with the things you're specifically looking to learn at the clinic? <snip> My goals for the clinic include: - Crisp clockwork and pivot turns with a definite start and stop at each turn, - Grid flying: what it takes to set up the grid and what type of flying is possible. - Flying competition figures inverted (Camel Back, Arc Circle, and Bumps). Driving the pointy ends forward is an ongoing challenge. - Nail an 6-person Blender a few times - Keep the shoulders relaxed and hands down - Dare to call - See some old friends and meet some new ones That should about do it. ;-) Dave Edited January 4, 2010 by glider
