Aerochic
They were reporting 40mph winds there today! I hope you all have lead weights to keep you from hangliding tomorrow! ;D
big bri
They were reporting 40mph winds there today! I hope you all have lead weights to keep you from hangliding tomorrow! ;D Your correct Aerochic. I mannedd a Hospitality suite for Rover cars some ten years ago now at Royal Birkdale.I was a keen golfer then. What a fabulous two weeks to be involved with. The Open[thers only one Open btw ] realy is a mecca for golf fans. I watched a young Sevie Ballesteros practicing ther some years before that,1976 i think,i was in short pants then.Simply the best natural talent ive ever had the pleasure to watch playing golf.He played then in similar conditions to what weve had Today,40mph gusts in variable directions, testing weather.Lynx golf is a game within a game. . I followed sevie at Birkdale on the practice days that year and watched in ore on the BBC afterwards[couldnt aford the tournament day ticket in them days] ,as he strode round like he was six feet taller than everyone else[on a black and white TV].With his Spanish passion and a visible thisrt for a sport he was completely in love with.he hit twice as many bunkers than fairways, was in more rough than a pair of March Hares and putted like I never thought possible and came a close 2nd ,Me and my Dad had a little wager on him and agin in 1979 he went one better at royal Lytham, further up the coast, He won that year . Great Memorise from my childhood and as a youngman[corrected by my dad on dates] C.R Serpant delta,40ft long and some rev stacks and 1.5s on 200ft lines.May even get on the tv.They generally Pan the cameras down the beech.Lets see if we catch ther eye,,,,i bet we do. Lauranyyfan
Have fun there. I always watch golf whenever possible and haven't missed The British Open in quite some time. Unfortunately, and fortunately, I'll be up at Liberty State Park flying and watching the NJ Sport Kite Championship. It was great today, but extreme heat and humidity made for a tough afternoon, but successful. Tomorrow will be pretty much the same... If anyone catches the Revs being televised, please post, if possible.
sailor99
Well I tuned into the British Open Kite Festival. But they kept on showing a load of blokes hitting balls with long sticks. Where's the kite flying I say. I fund the BBC with my license fee, and they couldn't even show one shot of the main event! Its a DISGRACE! I will be writing to the Director General about it later on. big bri
Well,The BBC will have to have ther long lens on.I arrive at Ainsdale around 6.30 am.Waiting for me was a 40mph chilly blast, rain like stair rods, black skys, and a few suprised doggers. SUMMARY I flew my 2-4 BLAST first to warm up as usual and then got the Prog custom stack out.Dave arrived and just flew his Sedgewick with a 2 wrap in for the first hour.We then did some team stuff for a while with our B Series 1.5s with race rods in.The rain was slightly heavier now and tended to fill my hat rim to quickly,as you know, that can spoil a zen moment when it spills and runs off,i removed it and put it in my shorts pocket. Dog staking is a tad more difficult in these condition, glad i had my flip flops on though.Wellingtons just wouldnt have cut the Mustard or my Brashers.A few guys shouted some words of appreciation as they sailed past our cars. The 50lb line we flew on was brand new, made a strange noise.I suspect its the unusual line set length and newness.I personally dont usually fly over 200ft,but the extra 185ft made things much slower and improved the window.Axels and flick flaks arent as flat or precise as i like them,i blame the drag.I just cant move as quick in water over my hips as i used to,The dive stop and reverse Pentagon are so cool and worth trying, but even better when you swop handles just to test your focus that bit more. VIDEO LATER. I then flew my 10stack of rev ones, with one hand and my 10 stack of 1.5s with the other, while peeling an Orange and tying my shoe laces.I forgot my boiled eggs.Typical realy of me,spoiled my morning slightly i was so looking forward to eating them. The rain had slowed so i took my vest of and stuck on the Oakleys.,they realy helped.Useing the large Steel ring they attach Ships to for a stake is inconvenient as i hate heveing to get my arms and hair to wet so early in the day,on the up side the salt water is an antiseptic.Throwing your Sandwich crusts a little up wind,20ft or so, keeps the king crabs and Box Jelly fish happy. The RNLI arent keen kiters either, they went over our lines sevaral times in that fancy Orange and blue boat ,clashed with the rubber rings they kept throwing here ther and everywhere, one went streight over one child.Luck,is he did that a few miles down the coast at Blackpool. He would have won a Gonk or Goldfish ,makes a change though from dogs and joggers eating the kites or kicking the lines . The Airfield ,a good,i would think,2 or even 3 minutes away sent a man round.RAF Woodvale, is usually a quieter Airfield.Marking your lines is a good idea half way up them. After the first half dozen Harriers had dove below our stacks,we put a few F Tails up just to have a more static abject for them to fix on. The chap,a large fellow from the airfield.Must have bumped into his freinds Sargent bilco and his dog, they tried everything to catch a few fish i think.A Smaller hook and thinner line was the best answer to ther barron nets. The dog in the water cant help along with the hook dragging on the bottom. Off for a smoothie and do lunch Later, CHOW BRIAN...

Baloo
In a cave, now that is a good idea. Pitch black, no one would be able to see that I can not fly without wind. Suppose you had the RAF, Lifeboat, so had started the set. You just needed Fire, Ambulance, Police, Navy, Army, Coastguard and of course the AA and RAC. ARGH! Looks like the winds are ripping again today. Your so correct Aerochic, gusts of over 40mph this morning, dangerous with some of the debris from the tide mark.Wind stopped play and went inland, just off out again trying to find something more extreme to do,like counting new grass shoots, ironing or polishing the bathroom taps.
