Seeking advice on how to stack Rev's...

It was a beautiful day today: sunny and warm enough to wear just a hoodie over a T-shirt. Winds were perfectly smooth and steady, so I thought I'd try stacking some of my B-Series.

One the front, a Vent with 3 Wrap Equipped, followed by a Mid Vent with Race Rods and Standard with 2 Wraps. If the winds were stronger or gusty, I would've used beefier framing, but it was just about laboratory grade. B)

I flew the 3 stack on 90# x 120' lines, but if the wind had been a bit stronger, I would've gone to the 150# line. The lines were singing, but not screaming. The stack got lots of compliments from the people in the park. I still need to do some tuning, but unfortunately, there was no one else around that could fly a Rev, so I couldn't get a good look at the stack from the side.

Great pictures Steve!

I was just thinking about stacking my B-series std, mid, vent and wondering on the sequence. You stack confirms my configuration idea.

I was considering the following frame set config: Vent 4 wrap, Midvent 3 wrap, std race.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

^normally I would have 4 Wrap/Vented, 3 Wrap/Mid-Vent, Race Rods/Standard too. I could get away with the light framing and lines due to the 'laboratory grade' winds. Any gusts and it would have been pushing my chances with the set-up I used.

Since I was by myself, I didn't swap the frames too. I had my hands full hooking up the link lines. B)

I was going to use 7 link lines, but I ran out of pigtails. :blushing:

This wasn't very well planned, I just tried it on the spur of the moment to see how the stack would work with the 3 different sail types. I just thought that I'd take advantage of a very rare perfect December day.

It is very hard to get a good pic when you're flying by yourself. It's a fair amount of pull to fly one-handed and even then, you mostly see the lead kite. A couple were taken by a dog walker for me and the tip stand one was done by staking my handles with them in a 45° landing and walking down to the kites. The wind was that smooth and steady- the kites stayed posed like that the whole while. :D

How many pigtails and linklines do you need.

Will make some now. What poundage.

Mike.

Does mean you don't fly them any more or you have added more train lines?

Seriously, from the pic it looks like the lines run from the down tubes, correct?

Are they attached at the ends (bridle points) or further inward?

You should know I am going to stack mine.

I just received my package from Corey, (1000' of line)

anybody have any blank winders they aren't using?

I don't fly them much anymore. I like my Progressive stack better.

Yup, the stacking lines were attached to the tops and bottoms of the vertical spars. Since it's always flown as a stack, I don't have pigtails, I just larksheaded the lines right on.

Wow, what a job.

Just finished making up link lines and pigtails for a five-stack.

Also put all pigtails on. Made them ten inches long, but realized they are a bit short after double larksheading them to kites.

Should be 12".

Made the link lines 54" long, put a mark 10" from each end and tied loops in.

Front kite has two leading edges in it, 3 wrap and Race Spars.

Should be tough enough to hold it together.

A total of six hours work so far and haven't put on the link lines yet.

Now I need a brisk wind and sunny weather before the snow flies in a couple days.

Looking forward to showing you some photos soon.

Are you going to get down to the park today? I still have 2 kites hooked up with link lines.

Inspired by The Flying Squad (UK) and Mike K's stack of IIs.... B)

and with the kind donation of "Little Red" Rev II (thanks SteveB)

I decided it was time to build my own 'rainbow' stack (with LE screen mesh)

So far the stack is up to 4 - maiden test flight pic here with more IIs to follow soon. ;)

Snap, now have the same colours (pretty much) as Mike's quad 2s seen here.

Maiden test flight of the stack of 5 this weekend with pleasing results :)

And there's still room in the stack bag for some more if there's a need to add to it.

5 is quite some pull though ;)

Sweet... I had a 7-stack back in the mid-90s, great fun.

Actually tried a Rev II using the updated brake methodology a few months back, WOW, what a precise little monster. :)

Race frame, 50# lines... Yum.

One of these days, we really need to do a B2.
