With regard to the UK topic... To me, Ireland and England are different countries, with clearly different identities and cultures.
Let's stay the heck away from politics here, not even the point... Does anyone here understand the definition I'm aiming for here?
Hi John - you've got an interesting challenge on your hands here. As has been mentioned, if you go state specific in USA, then the equivalent is using French departments, Italian regions, etc. To borrow the equivalent principles of another hobby:
Amateur Radio use a countries list:
http://www.qrz.com/i/dxcc.html [eliminate the duplicates caused by different callsign prefixes]
Here The "United States of America" counts as one entity, alongside "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Ireland in this list is separate and represents just the South, of course.
So, at the risk of complicating the count, I wonder if you might start with a simple countries list (USA counts as one), then subdivide by state, region, province, or whatever where the country count is sufficiently high to warrant it.
It is true that characteristics of continental European countries can vary significantly across their domain, reflecting their close neighbours (I'm thinking Begium and Switzerland here, but I'm sure this is replicated throughout the world), geographic or political heritage.

I've not seen any! I think that some was 'taken'.
The videographer present doesn't frequent the Internet (nor by consequence this forum) so the question will need to be asked in person next weekend!

Is there any news on a live Internet Video stream for this year?

Just checked the Met Office web site latest forecast for Sunday, 1^c and a 9mph northerly.
Posties may be tough but there's no fooling me, you're on your own wearing Shorts and a T-shirt.

Nothing beats your Portsmouth brekie( maybe this http://www.dailymail...fast-world.html)
Happy Christmas matey
Be careful - you might end up selling the ring-side seats to Bob's Portsmouth breakfasts next year.

Did you see the group of performers on bicycles at the Blackheath Kite and Bike Festival this year? They were absolutely sublime.
I'm just having a vision of a well known team flying their routine whilst riding unicycles. I think I need to go and lie down now!
-
I can confirm myself but would prefer it if others could confirm their interest and attendance:-
Happy to help as field crew and get in the way as usual. Maybe even get to fly once the deed has been done.
-
I don't know these routines (or have the skill to fly them accurately) but if I had a chance to watch them (and fly with the people who CAN fly them) I would be there in a heartbeat. If you can get there, GET THERE.
Hopefully somebody will remember a camcorder. Perhaps Everyone could bring one along in case Somebody forgets...

I wondered if we could put together an informal event on the New Years weekend.
Felix
Probably depends just how early you hope to assemble on Saturday morning (and where)!

my take on the calls would be something like ....from the zig zag ..morf to 4 person balls ..right tips in rotate 1 place clock ..to left tip back to where you started back to ball ..back to zig zag 180 to opp zig zag and back to start
You volunteering to create the animation Gary?

The Cross Thread looks very high on the RichterScale of potential foul ups making it a huge risk in an arena presentation.
I can see that these manoeuvres look amazing, but - with the cross stop in particular - it looks as if there will be a lot of crossed/pulled strings... To me, the highest risk factor is instability (myself or another flyer) when we are all mutually dependent and there is no clean exit available. Visualising the line crosing and line twists is much more difficult with the 2 dimensional representations available to us, without a lot of real-life experience to back it up.
So I do like David's idea of a Richter Scale for moves - this could be very helpful for encouraging and developing novice teams and MegaFly opportunities. Defining the factors leading to difficulty and a Request For Comment on a Quad-line MultiFlier Richter Scale format could be spawned to another discussion thread? [i'd guess that STACK or other multi-line competition formats have developed some of these elements in the context of smaller numbers of participants.]

Just thought of a good reason to buy more Revs.
I think it's still only one kite per person, Chris. You don't have to fly them all, alone...
-
What we need to see is all the fliers being able to rotate their kites slowly and reliably around the centre of the kite or wing tip on command and the ability to stop and hold position at any angle.
IMO the challenge here is to cope with the variables of both wind speed/force (especially at the bottom end of the range) and gusts. Would it be fair to say that maintaining control in gusty conditions is all about reaction time, rather than a technique in its own right?

Have we got a schedule, Dress code, Menu etc yet??? Need to know what to pack in the car... Obviously I've ironed my pink shirt and been practicing pie eating all week but my whinging's a little rusty ...
I'd suggest (in this order):
* arrive, fly, lunch (see 3 below), fly more, (optional) pub, go home;
* leave the mankini at home (please);
* clanger (but avoid the veggie ones) or burger & chips.
...and I'm told that whingeing is like riding a bike: it'll soon come back to you with minimal practice...

The Hunter Green is also referred to as "Monkey Green" by Bazzer
I'm guessing you use a ColorMunki to set up the colour profiles for your PC display and printers.....

Jonesey just pointed this out to me ... I suppose that's better than pointing it out after it happened and asking where was I!
So anyway... see you all there, I suppose!
Anyone told Les yet...?

My vented 'B' also takes the brunt of those stronger winds, so I've had to tighten the bottom end-cap bungees (on the vertical spars) a couple of times to keep the sail taut. If it balloons, the kite might wallow in turns. Might be worth a look if you've not checked them recently?
[i'm prepared to be shot down in flames if I'm talking rot. It wouldn't be the first time...

The Flying Squad The Flying Squad were on the BBC last night.
A program about Wild Weather featured a short segment on wind and so kites seemed a perfect choice. Take a look at the link at around 8:45 seconds in.
Sadly the iPlayer is about as useful as a chocolate teapot for most forum members. (The same is true of US-based broadcasters' own web-based videos for UK-based readers).
I must say it was an excellent programme - I was especially taken by the duck (line laundry) around the 9 minute mark - not that I'm biased..

..Anyways im back on the weed[tabacco].Did about three months and failed....this time. Go again - the tobacco devil tries to keep 'is claws in. Keep at him and you'll get there (and save a pile of money into the bargain).
