Back into It.

I Hope everyone is having a great start to the new year. I am getting back out there and flying. Holiday Flying: Well I actually got a chance to fly twice in my 2 week Christmas Holidays. MGower was out there with me both times, always great company. Both times were super light winds. SparkieRob had his Rev Indoor outdoors on the day he joined me. Even though conditions were light it was great to get out there. Back into It: I am going to do something different to cover my First week bac

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all

With it being my Last Kite-able week before the End of year Break, I decided to make extra effort and get out early each day. Summer in Perth is blessed with Early dawn, about 5am this time of the year. I decided to try to get out there around 5am each day. With A Big week ahead of me I started out strong. But Would the Wind play games with me? Monday: Light winds but good (3.5h on field) On the Field for 4:50am, SUL flying just after 5am. It was a very low wind day staying around 3-5kph (5-

A Sweet Week

Monday: The Morning started out with some fine Strong winds. I grabbed out the Vented on 120’ lines. I pushed myself to spend as much of the time as possible inverted. Every time I flipped upright or landed, I went straight back into inverted flight. Hovers and Slides. I think it went well Tue Arvo: I only had a half hour to spare, but I continued the Inverted theme, from Monday. It was A good practice in Moderately Strong winds on the Vented. Wednesday Morning: Mid Vent B, 3 wrap frame,

International Kite Flyer Visits Perth

Sorry for the late update, it took more typing than usual, I hope you enjoy my kiting Adventure… Monday: Once again Commitments crowded me in. Tuesday: After the Pain of not flying on Friday and Monday, I had to get out there. I put in the effort to get to the Field nice and early. There was a good Solid Wind that was pushing strongly. I decided to make it a fun day. I pulled out my Supersonic! I set it out on my 90# x 120’ lines to give me plenty of room to manoeuvre. I Flew And I had F

Back in the Swing of It.

Monday: The Afternoon provided a chance to get some Rev Air. With a very strong wind and Solid Gusts it was time for the Vented. I grabbed the wrong lines and ended up with the 30’ on field, So I just went with it. I got some great Inverted Hovers in. I also did some work on my Bicycle Turns. Tuesday: I went in for a morning fly, but it was very dead. If I had a Rev Indoor I might have tried to fly, but I don’t. So I flew a glider instead. Got to my main field for an Afternoon flight, There

Special Blog – Where I Fly

Hi all, not soon for another Blog I hope. I Just wanted do a Special Post about where I usually fly. There Should Be a Satellite Photo Shot Attached with some scribbles on it. The Blue Area is my main Kite Field. It is Huge, and the Wind can come in fairly smoothly most days. Sure It can get Gusty and Lumpy, but anything I can fly in is good. I have been flying at this park for a couple of years now and it has become very familiar to me. There is a river along one edge and there is alwa

I'm Back...

I am Back… Did you miss me? Well I have been missing Flying lately. I am Very Sorry to say this Blog took a back seat to everything else that was happening to me. I was still flying for a while, But only when I met up with SparkieRob. But now I am Back into Flying again, Made three trips to the park this week so far, and I am glad to say it has been worth it. Tuesday Afternoon was my first session, where I discovered that the battery in my wind meter had died. I will sort that out later. B

A Great Week!

Monday 17th June: I got to the field and found zero wind. I pulled out a Glider and caught about 10min before a steady breeze started up. I quickly put it away and pulled out my SUL on 50’ lines. I managed to get in about 15min on the SUL before the gusts became threatening. Sadly my other Rev’s were at home, but it was a great session anyway. Tuesday: Winds were shifting between 3-18km/h (2-11mph). Out came my STD B on 150’ lines. My STD has a Race Frame most times. I focused on Sail

Still Flying

Well, Work, Winter and other "W" words have kept me off the flying fields of late. But I have managed two Great Sessions in the last 2 weeks. Got to be happy with that..... A “Middie Kinda” Day. About 2 weeks ago I got a Brilliant Lunch time Fly in with SparkieRob. There were Grey/Black storm clouds threatening the whole time. But not a drop of Rain fell on us. We started out with the 120’ lines and the STD revs. Rob’s Grey/Red B looks quite nice next to my Black/Blue B. We flew side-by-s

Wet Weather Times

I need to apologise to all you Blog readers out there, Many boring things have distracted me recently. I have been struggling to get the time to write for this Blog. The Free time I have had recently I have dedicated to flying rather than writing about flying. I hope you all understand. So to catch up on recent highlights… Well the winter weather is moving in, very low winds and unpredictable rains. Not the best of times. But when the weather opens up, I jump at it. I keep my Rev kit with

Learning to Fly

Learning to Fly (Pink Floyd), “Into the distance, a ribbon of black Stretched to the point of no turning back A flight of fancy on a windswept field Standing alone my senses reeled A fatal attraction is holding me fast, How can I escape this irresistible grasp?” These Lyrics are from The Pink Floyd Song “Learning to Fly” Clearly someone had been flying a Rev when they came up with these. Well not really, it is about flying a plane, but there is certainly an “Irresistible Grasp” with Re

Perth Meet - Duelling Stacks and more..

It was promising to be some Pre-storm winds, I arrived first on field, darkness all around. I finished my Breakfast while I collected up my various bags, and headed out on field. I staked out my 150# lines with the plan of putting a stack on it. I was linking the Midvent B to the back of the Fullvent B when SparkieRob came out on field. Followed quite quickly by Jim (a long time Kite friend) In the light of the pre-dawn Rob started to get out a 2 stack and his Vented Polo. The field also too

Not A Flight Log, something different.

It is really feeling like Autumn out here now. Darker Mornings and Evenings, a positive cool change, it even rained. Oh Sure, Summer will throw a few more warm days at us, but the really hot days should be behind us. This Episode of my Blog is not a simple Log of my recent flying, but a look into the Past, at the Quad flyer I could have been. Also my recent Quad experiences, and also looking to my Quad future. I have been thinking about how I could have been a Quad Head years ago. I have ha

Flight Log and My First Stack!

Flight Log Update 27/28FEB I got a great fly in on Wednesday Morning. I got out the Mid-Vent Black/Lime for the first time. The wind was light, the wind was moderate, and the Mid Vented Went really well. I also ran out a second kite. I think it is my first time to stake out 2 Rev’s in one session. I had the Mid with a 3 wrap Frame on my 90# x 85’ lines. Next to it was the STD with 2 wrap frame on 50# x 50’ lines. When the wind got too light for the Mid I Parked it and swapped to the STD.

My Best Kite Day Ever!

My Best Kite Day Ever! I got to Tom Bateman reserve (my Fav Flying grounds) at just after 5am. There was a good cool Easterly coming through the car park. There were only the earliest signs of Dawn. I took a moment to let the wind rush past me, taking in the early morning sights, sounds and smells. Flying kites puts your back to the wind so often that it’s nice to face the wind once in a while. Rob would be along soon, it was time to gather my thoughts and my Kites. I got my Revs and a fe

Flight Log 21-25FEB

Thursday 21FEB Morning was met with Lightning Storms over my Flying field. Not flying in Lightning…. No Way… By the Afternoon I was treated to Mild conditions that allowed the STD to fly quite nicely on 2 Wrap and 50/50 lines. The conditions were very nice, got in a decent half hour. Friday 22FEB Morning was very Light on. 0-2 km/h gusting to 5km/h (0-1mph 3mph Gusts) I put in the effort and flew. STD Sail 2 Wrap Frame. I managed quite a bit of Air time. Rests needed between. 19FEB2013 - Flight Log

Yesterday Arvo (Mon18FEB13) was Interesting to say the least. When I got set up, there was Sweet Mild winds with moderate gusts. I set up My B STD with a quick change to the 3 Wrap frame. I gotta say the Multiple framing options on these kites is Fantastic! I started out by practicing some Squares and Circles. In an attempt to gain more control of my kites I have been doing a lot of hovering in different positions, and also lots of forward/backward/sideways flight. I figured it was time to

About Me

I am a Husband, Father, Brother, Son. I flew kites as a young kid, but my memories are vague at best. I really got into kites about 25 years ago, Single line kites to decorate the sky. My Interest has peaked and fallen a few times over the years. I was a member of the West Australian Stunt Kite Association, I met lots of great people and borrowed Many fantastic kites. We flew Dual line demonstrations at various places. Some of my Greatest Kiting memories happened with the WASKA. But then
